That is a terrible comparison. Especially if you're talking about a very minor spanking, like one swat to the backside to get the kid's attention when trying to reason with them has utterly failed and they continue to act out. Keep in mind I would never justify anyone doing an action that actually harmed anyone (a person's own child included).

1) With a boss spanking his employee, that is workplace harassment and quite possibly sexual harassment, whether the employee spanked was male or female. In the workplace, the boss is not an employee's parent, and it's not their job to parent employees. Thus, if they are to discipline employees, it must be done in a professional, workplace manner. Spanking an employee is not a professional means of disciplining them.

2) with someone's own child, it IS the parent's job to parent that child. Indeed, a parent should always make every attempt to discipline/teach their kids via logic and reasoning with them, and inflicting harm on a child is NEVER acceptable under any circumstances. That said, you can't expect a small child to always comprehend verbal reasoning equally as well as an adult employee. Say a small kid keeps running into the road without looking, and they refuse to listen to the parents' pleas for them to stop the behavior, which could end up endangering the kid if they continue the bad behavior? In a case like that, one quick swat to the backside that doesn't inflict real harm (mostly surprises the kid/gets their attention, doesn't result in lasting pain or injuries of any sort) could arguably be justified as the best action in the name of the child's safety.

Again, your comparison was completely ridiculous and is an example of why kids in general keep becoming less respectful and dumber over the generations - we don't even let parents be parents anymore without freaking out over it.

Because ever since mankind can remember corporal punishment has been an accepted form of punishment for dealing with children. The notion of never touching a child is relatively new. When I graduated high school teachers still kept the strap in their desks for "bad" kids. That was 1986. I don't think the millions of kids who grew up in my generation or the ones before are somehow destroyed mentally because they received some spankings.

If you are unable to tell the difference between hitting an adult and spanking/disciplining your kid, then you are lacking some serious perspective in life.

I'm aware of what a spanking is and don't understand why anyone would think it's ok. Lashing them with a belt is even worse.

Let me just get this out the way first. I was spanked at home until the day I moved out pretty frequently. When I was a kid, my parents would make me go out and pick out my own switch - was just terrifying on top of it.

Getting spanked was the EASY way out and the way I would choose EVERYTIME if I was given a choice. It doesn't last very long, and then you get to go outside and play or do whatever else you want. I've had cuts from switches, had my dad's name imprinted in my butt in reverse from where it was in his belt, etc.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. My parents never punched me, put out cigarettes on my arms or in any other way ever punish me physically. Absolutely 0 abuse.

The worst punishment is being grounded. I hated that more than anything. It lasts forever, is boring as hell and sucks. But for most minor things, being spanked is actually more appropriate and in reality less of a punishment. You get stupid, run your mouth, get spanked, go out and play and you'll think twice before doing it again - the reason for it.

If those photos are legit, he went way too far... and I spanked both of my kids every once in awhile when they were young. There is nothing wrong with a swat on the ass with an open hand to get their attention. But hitting them with objects and drawing blood ? I don't see how anyone can defend that sort of thing.

Lots of facts still need to come out but from one report I read (I'll try and link it), the mother brought the son to a doctor in MN when he returned from visiting Adrian in Houston. Upon the visit, they discovered bruises and cuts on the boys legs and buttocks. The disturbing part is that they also found lacerations on the boys hands. That's basically what got this ball rolling.

Obviously, child abuse is a horrible, horrible thing. I'm not saying this is or isn't child abuse because no one in the general public has enough information as of now but this timing couldn't really be any worse. This is just a sad situation all around.

The endless cycle just perpetuates. Chances are when kids are (abused) or overly disciplined physically and mentally.....they grow up to do the same thing to their kids...and the research numbers on this corroborates.

While that may be true, nobody here is forgiving or defending abuse or over-disciplining. Causing injury or bleeding is over the line, but something like a spanking for mouthing off is teaching your kid how to not be a dipshit and will help them in life.

How is that the disturbing part? It would be pretty common for the kid to reach back and cover his butt as he's about to get spanked/hit which would leave the marks on his hands.

The pictures out there look like a pretty harsh punishment to me. I think it was over the line for a simple spanking

Most current kids would now I imagine but the teachers can't even TOUCH the kids so that won't work anymore....old school stuff.
