Well I guess you'd have to look at how often they got down there. It's also known world wide that the Lions didn't have nearly the offensive weapons the Boys did. They never had a QB worth a damn, nor did they have a line that could move the LOS.
well I tried to not get involved in this debate at all, but it amazed me how long the argument of Barry & Short yardage was going.

Barry didn't have weapons ..... LOL
TWO 1000 yard receivers in a running league ... ( Moore and Perriman)

I dont Remember the Cowboys ever having two 1000 yard receivers in those days :L

Yea the all time leading rusher in NFL history = nothing special.
In all my years.. just wow. Ya know, I get that he may not be your favorite and maybe not the best of all time or even in your top five but "nothing special aside from toughness" blah blah blah... You have been downgraded to troll status imo. That's just hate, nothing more/less.

I tried to talk some real football with nos and acknowledge that he had a reasonable opinion. Smith not special.....that's troll talk. As a matter of fact I would like to nominate nos as the troll of the week. :bullshit:

This may be cherry picking but Barry is known for breaking the long run for the TD, in his career he had 9 TD runs of 60+ yards, Adrian Peterson already has 11

Let me say I may have gone a little too far in saying "not special" but IMO there are only a few truly special backs.

Herschel Walker at Georgia was special, Walter Payton was special, Bo Jackson was special, Adrian Peterson is special, Emmitt was a great back no question I guess I just have a different opinion on what makes a player special.

I really didn't mean to offend anyone...

This is one of those debates where its clear every mind on this board is decided on what they believe. I think to get in Canton and to rush for more than 18,000 Smith is very special. As a matter of fact I think every rb that has been discussed is very special and or in the higher echelon of greatness regardless of position with the exception of Walker. I do care what he didn't in college his NFL career was pretty avg imo.

It's a fair point.

On TD runs of 40 or more yards Barry has 20. AP has 13.

Although you've been kind of a dick I respect your opinion, my opinion is aside from his toughness there was nothing really special about him, you could have put a dozen backs on that team that would have done the same things he did. Remember this is just my opinion. Can you imagine Walter Payton on that team? He would have rushed for 22,000 yards...

Not true we drafted Derrick Levelle to take his place (might have spelled that wrong) and several others to replace him .... None could do it

In fact if you look at the 93 season Jerry Jones thought like you .... Cowboys went winless without Emmitt.... Finally paid him and won the Superbowl

but that toughness is what helps to make him great/special. How many players start out looking like they are gonna be this or that & start breaking down as their careers go on. Like I said in another post. Longevity is one of the signs to greatness. Not all players can last at a high caliber for a long career.

I will concede his longevity was impressive but he only once had an average per carry over 4.7 and beginning at age 27 never went over 4.2. Adrian Peterson just had a season in which he averaged 6.0 yards per carry with almost no other offensive player worth a shit on the team. That's special...

Make no mistake ... We ALL know it's special

end of career... winning team .. when they run the ball 3 and outs to kill the clock ... his avg is going to drop though

if AD makes a long career don't think you will get to many arguments. Don't think ppl are saying Emmitt is the most special RB ever. They are arguing with you about saying he isn't/wasnt special.

I can appreciate that...

Bread and butter shouldn't be on the field for all those 3 and outs when ya got a big lead, thats backup time. I guess I just think with the team Emmitt had he should have averaged 5.0 yards a carry more than once in his career.

Hope we are cool, I didnt come here to fight, rather just to talk about a sport I love with some Cowboys fans... I live in Texas and am surrounded by Cowboys fans, just thought it was safe to shoot the shit with y'all...
