Might be of note but our pick now goes to the Sixers instead of the Suns if it falls out of the Top 5 this year. The Suns traded it in all the madness of today.

FWIW, I'm glad the Lakers didn't do anything. I didn't think they had anything of value to trade in the first place but you never know what will shake out so I'm glad they didn't force their way into something stupid. I'm a bit bummed the Suns got Brandon Knight though. I had him pegged as the under the radar PG the team should really go after in FA instead of Rondo or Dragic. Maybe he'll still explore the market but its hard to imagine the Suns dealing away 2 of their 3 PGs without knowing Knight will sign with them.

Knight is a RFA. Limited chance the Lakers could sign him anyway.

I think Phoenix screwed themselves over by giving up both Dragic and Thomas. Their whole offence is built on their guards.

I would laugh my ass off if they don't make the playoffs AND the Lakers get to keep the pick!

You can start laughing now. Phoenix isn't making the playoffs.

I laughed when I read that Phoenix wanted the Lakers to drop the top 5 protection, but probably not as hard as the Lakers front office laughed.

No doubt. My only question is: Was Mitch courteous enough to hang up the phone before he started laughing?

That's why I was disappointed he didn't stay on the Bucks. They were less likely to match offers since they are looking to keep space for their younger core guys.

That is funny TJF12. I hope Phoenix has screwed themselves with these moves. Couldn't happen to a more deserving franchise.

Looks like Rondo and Carlisle aren't getting along in Dallas. He might be more inclined to explore the free agency market now!

If Dragic stays in Miami (I think he will) and the Lakers draft someone other than Mudiay in the draft, I wouldn't mind Rondo. I know Kobe has been lobbying hard for him.

I still see a possibility in Dragic coming to the Lakers. In Miami he'll have Wade and Bosh to compete with being team leader whereas in LA he could be the star.

Plus saw this the other day: http://www.lakersnation.com/lakers-...eam-as-perfect-fit-in-free-agency/2015/02/20/

He would be stupid if he didn't at least hear the Lakers' pitch in the summer.

That being said, I wouldn't mind Rondo either.

I don't think he's as worried about being a star as he is about being THE point guard on whatever team he plays for. Interesting that tweet came AFTER he had been traded to Miami. Maybe the Lakers have a better shot than I gave them credit for?

Honestly, I think it may well come down to who will pay him more and where he feels comfortable. I think the Lakers will max him, but I'm not convinced the Heat will, especially if Whiteside keeps developing. They're going to have to pay him big in 2016(?) if they want to keep him.

I hope not, but If Dragic would have agreed to a sign and trade in principle before the trade, the I think it would be a consideration you would need to listen to - especially if you have a young talented point guard like him who wants to play point guard. With Nash coming back in the coaching status the Lakers would be well set up. Not saying that would sign it - just listen, but for the remaining portion of a season that is meaningless - No way

I really don't like the Rondo option to be honest - Rondo is 29 and will be 30 this summer. If you believe in the Lakers 3 year plan - then they won't be ready to compete for a title until the season beginning in 2016 which will put rondo as an aging point guard 31 years. On a short 3 year plan may be, but I would rather see the Lakers go younger and more athletic

Dragic is 28, turns 29 on May 6th and will also turn 30 next season. So, Dragic isn't any younger than Rondo. Both Dragic and Rondo have games that translate to having long careers because they aren't guys who are constantly driving to the hoop like Westbrook or Rose. Like Steve Nash, they should both be effective into their mid to late 30's.

Both have excellent handles and are great passers. Dragic is a much better shooter, Rondo plays better defense. If the Lakers end up going after a PG in FA and have a choice between the 2, they should go with Dragic. But Rondo would be a very nice consolation prize.

I like Dragic considerably better, but that might be because Rondo was a Celtics. To be honest I think Rondo would most likely be a better fit if the Lakers intend to really play defense and get to the finals, but I still like Dragic better.

If Rondo keeps up with his personal battle with Carlisle, he's going to be out of Dallas faster than he realizes. He's already been suspended by one game by Dallas to think about it.

They will work it out and resolve their issues for the benefit of the team. Carlisle hates defense which has been Rondo's priority, so that's most likely their beef. Hard to second guess, but there will be some good free agents, so if the Lakers can land two decent agents, they will be on the road to recovery. The list so far

Rondo
Love
Dragic

I know there are others, but so far those will be in consideration. I'm just glad that the Lakers didn't get Carmelo Anthony

still not a huge fan of Love though. dude can score, but his defense almost blows. and i don't see him getting that much better on the defensive end of the floor...

Don't forget he has had injury issues that kept him out an entire season, but if the Lakers don't over pay for some of these players and are patient this summer, better things will come.

No, I think the Lakers will be focusing on Monroe and Deandre Jordon this summer. Love has lost priority I believe.

I prefer Dragic too because I think the gap in shooting ability between Dragic and Rondo is a bigger gap thatn the defensive gap, but I won't be too upset if it's Rondo.
