trout butchered one ball git to him in the field. then came in on a routine ball. Harold Rynolds had to tell every body...trout closes on a ball better than any body in baseball..then when trout fouled off a low pitch..rynolds said..no body hits the low ball in baseball better than trout. never mind it was fouled off!! Trout is FOX boy. sad you can see how they are marketing him....

Trout is the new Jeter. The new face of baseball. Get use to it. Miggy has had plenty of hob nobbing by the media last couple years. FOX used Miggy for a time also.

What I find funny about Dougie Doug is if Trout was Tiger right now, he would with out a doubt be the best ever....word.

I dont get this, instead of needing two hits to get a run you need one. Its an instant run, and solo shots can lead off rallies. There is nothing more valuable offensively than hitting a home run.

Nos I love triples as well but in no way does a guy hitting triples have more value than a guy hitting home runs.

I don't get how you don't get it.

And if Miggy was on the Angels, he'd just be some fat drunk.

Agreed...Trout's the new golden boy with the image of a "kid who just wants to play the game." Griffey and Jeter were portrayed that way, and it's clear that Trout is being portrayed that way. McCutchen's another guy who could be portrayed that way, but I don't think playing in Pittsburgh is doing him any favors.

well mr hockey can count.

did you notice the ball Miggy hit??? with trout on 3rd. the pitch was inside off the plate. Miggy does what he has to do. drive the ball so mr overrated can score. he drove it...into the seats. word!

Harold also had to tell us Robi Cano is the best in the game on relays to home. On an unimpressive relay to home. The All-Star Game isn't so much for people that follow baseball on a daily basis. It's there to garner attention from theOpening Day/Little Kid/pennant race/playoff crowd. That's how I look at it anyway. It's still the best AS Game in all of sports, but it's hard to take very seriously. (Jon Lester should be a little annoyed with Trout though. Cost him some runs by misplacing that ball in left.)

Are you tallinbough how a HR kills a rally at times? Yet the double single triple single double keep going like a merry go round??:noidea:

That's exactly what Im tallinbough. (I should have seperated my two sentences as paragraphs earlier. That may have caused confusion, as I was tallinbough to seperate home run opinions. The rally kill and the Raburn.).

Funny thing is trouts ball probably traveled further.

Yeah, Trout hit his triple more toward center, and Miggy's HR was to left field. But JEEZUS, Miggy's HR got out in a hurry. Like 1.2 seconds. You won't see many balls hit harder than that one.

Down three with one on, Id rather have a double or triple than a homer. Late inning solo shots pad stats but don't help with a rally.

As far as I know, there is no rule stating a player that hits a home run must actually go home... So why not just have your runner stop at 3rd? Do you really think that would be beneficial to the team?

Likewise, if my team is in the field and an opposing player hits a double or triple, why not just have a player throw the ball into the outfield and allow the runner to score, turning their xbh into a HR?

Intentionally abandoning your effort to run the bases is making a mockery of the game. And that my newb friend, results in the player being called out. (Same as stealing first from second. Which I've witnessed a fellow smartass do before.)

Either way you have the tying run at the plate. Id rather make a pitcher throw from the stretch (paying attention to the runner or not is his call) and Id rather the runner not be on first. (Less options of force plays.)

Or you can want two runners on and just wait on the three run homer. Earl Weaver style.

Not picking. Pitching, defense and the three run homer.... Earl knew what's up! I'll take a three run homer anytime. Especially in the hypothetical late inning, 3 run deficit situation.

For any former ESPN posters in here, you might remember today was the day they killed their boards effectively, once and for all, by going to facebook.

This is a list of people who were banned on the last day. Many were trolls of course... but who wouldn't troll Steve Brock?

First of all, late in the game chances are the guy on the mound is a relief pitcher. And the overwhelming majority of RP's pitch from the stretch at all times anyway. Second of all, if pitching from the stretch was such a disadvantage and the runner on base so unimportant, obviously the pitcher would just pitch from the windup. Third of all, you pretty much never see the pitcher switch to the stretch when the lead runner is on third.... so does that mean that triples are just as bad as HR's? Doubles are better than triples and HR's??? That makes no sense my newb friend and nobody plays baseball like that.

It only makes a mockery out of the game because it makes absolutely no sense to take a double or triple over a HR. It doesn't happen not because it makes a mockery out of the game but rather because it makes absolutely no sense.

Yes, Weaver did know what's up... but he certainly didn't value doubles over HR's.
