Tigers have looked real good lately. A's ran into 'em at the wrong time. Doesn't help they threw Jim Johnson out there when Chavez was in trouble. Game was over the second he stepped on the mound.

It's good to see Verlander's looked better as of late.

'twas nice of Ausmus not to trot him back out there for the seventh. Brad has screwed JVs ERA by leaving him in too long, on several occasions. Not that the bullpen would have been better in those games necissarily. But JV's season would look a lot better to those who haven't noticed Ausmus is the opposite of Captain Hook. (I believe JV went 5 or 6 scoreless before eventually giving up 7 earned semi-recently. I should have looked that up before posting.)

I give you Ausmus may have helped inflate the ERA. I know you are not the homer defender of all things Tigers. JV has had some other issues this year and part of last year. ERA up a little from Ausmus leaving him pitch a little long? Yes, I will give you that.

K/BB ratio and velocity loss is all him.

three straight QS is a sign of maybe righting the ship? We shall see.

I don't mean to say JV hasn't had issues on his own. But Brad has compounded things a bit. (Goes both ways though. Max has his first CG and Ricky has back to back for the first time.). It would have been four straight, I believe, had Ausmus went and got him when he should have. (I may be thinking if five starts ago. But either way JV was gassed and got smacked around for waaay too long.). Control has been my concern for #35 all year.

Too many agreeing with Doug.if that isn't warning enough. Ausmus is verlanders problem? A lot of drinking going on....for years..jv has the 7 inn or min 100 pitch outings....now ausmus should be pulling after 5 inn or if he gets into a bit of trouble? Jv has always been able to work through the rough innings...and its almost 50 starts he has declined...before ausmus arrived

Yep ... control both out of the zone (43 walks in 116.2 innings, 3.3 per 9 IP) and then missing over the plate when he's behind. Not hard to see the issue. In his most dominant seasons (2011-12), his walks/9 were 2.0 and 2.3. In seasons he has struggled (2008 and 2013), his walks/9 were 3.9 and 3.1.

It was very good to see Justin work out of two jams yesterday, when a couple of infield singles extended those innings. As stated by bums, that's something he used to be really good at. A saw a stat that his ERA with RISP this season was over 11.00. Yikes! At least that went down a bit yesterday.

I still think JV has 2 or 3 good-to-really good seasons left in him. He's a smart guy who works as hard as anyone in the game. May never be the dominant pitcher we paid for, but can still be very good.

Ausmus isn't the problem. But he's definitely compounded things by leaving him out there. It hasn't cost the Tigers any games. But it's hurt JVs stats. He's 9th in all of baseball in innings(tied with Shields and Ross). And he shouldn't be. 4,5 or 6 less innings when he was clearly spent and much of his stat line would be less unimpressive. But guys get paid to eat innings more than anything, so I suppose it just is what it is.

A lot of the ERA bloating occurred during that stretch when none of the Tiger starters except Anibal was doing very good, so the bullpen was taxed. JV helped his team going that extra inning or two, if not his stat line.

He's played 45 games.

And what does their ALCS appearances have to do with how those players are performing in 2014?

gee neva/ I guess to get to 3 straight ALCS you have to have some really good players!!!

even da bums could figure that one out.

just saying V Mart should go. maybe even Kinsler. Martinez should get just a look.
but I can understand you not seeing it. The Tigers are a TEAM. no big egos or selfish players..except Hunter

Tigers pulled off one of the best trades in a long time. since we got Fister...or since we got Miggy.
Kinsler for Fielder was such a great trade. Kinsler is a great ball player. you have to watch him play every day to really see it.

I guess the Red Sox should have more all-stars. After all, they won the WS last year!

I agree. And Kinsler's stats also reflect it.
