Tiger fan here, my dad and I made the 10+ hour trip to KC for the Tigers/Royals game Friday night. Kauffman was an awesome stadium, I've been to 12 of the 30 and this was in my top 5 for sure, ahead of its time. Great fans, lots of energy, I couldn't believe how many people stayed the whole game despite getting killed 10-1. Best of luck to you down the stretch, I'm rooting for you guys to win the Wild Card.

Central race refuses to die for now. This has an outside shot at game 163.

The way the Tigers have played against Chicago and Minny this season (15-17 combined), it's a very good possibility.

we stayed late because we chose to get drunk by the 3rd inning, lol, and the 50/50 raffle was the highest amount we have seen all season....I haven't seen people on the railings and stairs like that for awhile. It was definitely packed.

Glad you got to see the stadium in action.

hey, Billy is still one of the best GMs, could you imagine Dumbo with that kind of payroll?

"what do you mean I can't trade for him?" "Draft players, wtf" "make a small ball team with pitching and defense, wtf"..."I am going to NY instead, cashman is about to blow that gig"

put Beane with Detroit, he wins at least 2 WS in the last 8 years and goes probably 4 or 5 times.

Dombrowski has done very well for the tigers man. Most of his trades have heavily panned out in the tigers favor. Hes drafted players that have turned out to be flat out studs. The tigers were built via trades and the draft, not FA. If the royals traded their prospects for stars instead of trading their stars for prospects they might someday be a legit contender. As it is, dombrowski is doing it the right way.

lol, I am sure bring up facts you will use your "tiger hater" BS, so I might as well use your "Tiger Blinder Homerism" card

via draft? in 12 years of DD he does not have a good drafting record. What Verlander, Porcello, Granderson, Avila, opps now Nick C might count? If it wasn't for 1 guy Verlander, his drafting would be beyond terrible, he has drafted 1 flat out stud. almost every one else has been terrible, even Andrew Miller's success at RP isn't a great pick as a no. 1 pick.

Most of your starters ARE FAs -Torii Hunter, Prince Fielder (turned into Kinsler), JD. Martinez, Victor Martinez, R Davis the CORE OF your lineup is all FA's, are you drinking? don't forget Nathan, Johnson, Joba, hanarahanan

The trade for Miggy is what he will be known for was an easy steal as well as A Sanchez. Trading for Max was brilliant and by far his best pure trade of seeing something others didn't. His 2nd best trade was Fister, then he turned around and complete hacked that up. Price and Soria trades could work out well also. Trades for Coke, Krol, Ray, Inglesas,

DD has had a top 5 budget and 12 years to win a ring, 8 years of legit chances. Out of the top 10 payrolls only 2 teams haven't won a ring, 1 being Detroit. He doesn't pull it off this year and he might just be one of the biggest choke GM's ever with one of the greatest players ever...similar to Ted Williams Red Sox teams. His window just keeps getting smaller and has already peaked, Miggy and JV can't duplicate 2 of the best seasons in decades again.

You only get to compare DD to the other high payroll GM's and he sucks at this point. The Royals CAN"T trade their prospects for studs...but why let that little fact bother you. You just wanted to Royals hate.

DD's actual trades in Detroit from 02-08- yep their all winners..traded away guys on left, received guys on right. The list I found didn't have after 08

Jose Macias Chris Truby Kris Keller George Lombard Jeff Weaver (Yankees) and cash (A's) Carlos Pena, Franklyn German and Jeremy Bonderman (A's) Brain Moehler, Matt Boone and cash David Espinosa and 2 PTBNL: Noochie Varner and Jorge Cordova Tom Farmer and a PTBNL: Jason Frasor Hiram Bocachica Mike Rivera Gene Kingsale Randall Simon Adrian Burnside and a PTBNL: Roberto Novoa Cash Travis Chapman Cash Matt Roney Mark Redman and Jerrod Fuell Gary Knotts, Nate Robertson and Rob Henkel Matt Coenen Chris Spurling Cash A.J. Hinch Chad Petty and Noochie Varner Alex Sanchez Adam Bernero Ben Petrick Ramon Santiago and Juan Gonzalez Carlos Guillen Cody Ross Steve Colyer Jon Connolly and a PTBNL: Eric Eckenstahler Felix Sanchez Mike Difelice Future Considerations Anderson Hernandez Vance Wilson Roberto Novoa, Scott Moore and Bo Flowers Kyle Farnsworth Steve Colyer Matt Ginter Ugueth Urbina and Ramon Martinez Placido Polanco Future Considerations Steve Green Future Considerations John McDonald Kyle Farnsworth Roman Colon and Zach Miner John McDonald Cash Chris Booker Cash Brian Rogers Sean Casey Chris Robinson Neifi Perez Nook Logan Future Considerations Anthony Claggett, Humberto Sanchez and Kevin Whalen Gary Sheffield Jeff Frazier Yorman Bazardo Cash Anastacio Martinez Wil Ledezma Macay McBride Mike Maroth PTBNL: Chris Lambert Christopher Cody Jose Capellan Roman Colon Daniel Christensen Jack Hannahan Jason Perry Craig Monroe and cash PTBNL: Clay Rapada Jair Jurrjens and Gorkys Hernandez Edgar Renteria Omar Infante Jacque Jones Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, Eulogio de la Cruz, Mike Rabelo, Burke Badenhop and Dallas Trahern Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis Jose Capellan Denny Bautista Michael Hernandez Armando Galarraga Jason Grilli Zach Simons Denny Bautista Kyle Pearson Ivan Rodriguez Kyle Farnsworth
(it didn't stay separated but only 2 trades worked out well for the Tigers out of about 20, Miggy and Sheffield)

Even Detroit Press even know DD can't draft talent -

So, this is where Dave Dombrowski, the Tigers president and general manager, gets a pass for some rather lackluster draft classes — since he’s still been able to pawn off his clutter as another’s treasure. It’s also where Dombrowski gets cut some slack, though a little less, over the Tigers’ lack of minor league depth. (There’s still no excuse that injuries recently forced them to start a pitcher who was at Single A West Michigan last month.)
Think about it: Humberto Sanchez. Cameron Maybin. Andrew Miller. Mauricio Robles. Scott Sizemore. Francisco Martinez. Jacob Turner. And on and on. All of those gents, once upon a time, were blue-chippers by almost everyone’s definition, The Next Big Thing, and almost none has made any serious footprints anywhere else.

From The Detroit News: History shows Tigers way ahead on trading prospects | The Detroit News

just stop selling DD is a "Great GM", other GM's with his leeway are successful. He just looked like he was "great" because Tigers went from 119 losses to a WS appearance in 4 years and tigers fans looked at that as "Winning a Championship" already.

Well, a crap season for Justin Verlander ended with 15 wins and a 4.54 ERA. BUT....

In crunch time at the end of September, when the team needs him most, he goes 15-2/3 innings and gives up 2 ER over his final two starts.

I'll beat doug to the punch..... HEART, baby!

Yeah, I meant the ERA up and strikeouts down, doug. But the fact that he could persevere for 15 wins is huge.

Verlander. the man. the legend. When we needed him most AGAIN. he comes through with another stellar outing. 8 innings of 1 run ball.
He is in AL play off mode already. where his record in AL post season is HOF worthy type numbers.

Tiger also got to Sales. He was so flustered by VNart..that he lost his poise and hit him with a pitch.Tigers used there heads by not whailling on a few sox. no sense hurting your fist in the last couple games of the season

Game One starter, no complaints from me.

The guy gutted thru a season without hitting the DL. Went WAAAY too long several times early-mid season or that ERA would be about average.

I actually agree with HEART on JV this year.

when are you haters going to give Verlander some cred????????/

The guy lost 6 MPH on his fastball. He might not ever get it back. That core surgery is tough to come back from so soon. He is super sharp now. ready for the post season. jump on for the big win central fans!!!
