I really don't see the Twins being able to sign a legit pitching FA (High end #3 or better). Are the Twins outbidding the Angels, Cubs, Yankees, and Red Sox? Probably not.

Well of course we will never man up and do it. Could afford it no doubt. I said it as a complete joke to illustrate how bad our pitching situation still is. Mike Pelfrey for another 6 mil omg.

If mariners don't win tonight they don't deserve playoffs. Boesch batting 3rd for angels lol.

come on, out of the top 10 payrolls only DD and 1 other team haven't won a WS in over a decade. He has had 8 years (2006 to present) to pull out at least 1 win and consistently ignores bullpen, bench and bottom half of lineup.....dd struggles with small deals for bullpen, bench and bottom half of the lineup players, he couldn't handle a small market team, you can't make many trade mistakes.

the guy traded for Coke, Ray, Krol, traded away Fister....the Tigers are fine in the big name trades...DD gets killed in the small trades that make the rest of the team.....

Lets not go down the "he's done well drafting pitchers" in 11 or 12 years, 4 isn't really doing well.

The "constantly ignores bullpen" angle isn't true at all Bums. You know that. How many memebers of Detroits bullpen are return offenders? Coke and AlAl, that's it. Signing Joba, Nathan, Hanrahanrahan, Johnson, trading for Krol, trading for Soria...... Drafting closers in the first several times (Ruffin landed Fister. Knebel landed Soria)in the last 4 years.... You sound like a Tigers fan when you go that route. (Losing Rondon this spring hurt the BP like losing Zumaya 8 years in a row did. Really fuckin' bad.)

If you don't want to recognize DD as one of the ELITE GMs in the history of professional sports, that's your decision. I cant stop you. It's a poor decision, but atleast it's yours.

I really don't think Ryan has been that bad, he hasn't been given an open checkbook, he has done alright with a couple rule 5 players and trades. It's just the Twins way to try and sign average to below average players thinking somehow captain dipshit can turn them around.

Lol true the open checkbook restrictions and the mental capacity of man steering the vessel don't help but Ryan is a clueless dolt too. He makes most the moves and really none work. When he does sign players it's freaking Pelfrey or if we're lucky Sidney Ponson.

His best move the AJ deal comes with an *. The key piece in his mind was Bonser lol.

Gardy and Anderson need to go first though. If Molitor doesn't get the job I say hire a former Latin player. Pretty much all out talent needs translators lol.

Ok, will give you he keeps trying to get the closers but to keep Coke, ALAL and the Middle relief crap is what he actually ignores...absolutely COKE would not be pitching in the majors outside of Detroit, I honestly can't understand that guy being on a MLB team. Its like DD doesn't want to admit he failed when he got the guy.

DD isn't an "ELITE GM in the history of professional sports" holy good gawd...he isn't even ELITE in the history of MLB, let alone other sports.....not one championship in what 11 or 12 years with a great payroll...he has been looked at as GOOD because of MIGGY and JV, when MIGGY is done so is DD. He doesn't win a WS with Miquel Cabrera he is as bad as Boston's GM with Ted Williams.

He doesn't win a WS with Miquel Cabrera he is as bad as Boston's GM with Ted Williams.

He already has won a world series with Cabrera................in Miami.

That being said -- going to be a fun series to watch this weekend. I will love to see the Tigers sweep, but I will be ecstatic if they take 2 of 3. I will also say -- I will fine if they win 1 of 3, as KC still has the game where they are trailing with 3 outs to go, so it'd basically put the two teams in a tie.

The only scenario I do not want to see is a sweep by KC. That would be terrible for the Tigers, not only in the standings, but any momentum the team had would be all but gone.

I have been made it no secret that I am really pumped for this years playoffs.

This weekend is like a little sneak preview, or a teaser.

Definitely going to try and watch all 3 games. Love that ESPN2 picked up tonights.

Hmmm.... Verlander vs. Vargas tonight. Verlander is 1-2 with a 6.98 ERA in his last three vs. KC. Vargas is 1-2 / 6.75 ERA in his last three vs. DET. The cliche'd "something's gotta give" comes to mind.

Nope. Miggy was about 14 when DD won a WS in Miami, with Jim Leyland. DD was in DTown, losing 119 games when Miggy got his ring with The Marlins.

Why I stepped in and posted that Ill never know.

(Bums, if and when I say ELITE, Im not being serious. I hate that word. DD is great at what he does, the way he does it. Im cool with it, but I doubt the Astros would be in different shape with him at the helm. And btw, if DD had a SportsHoopla account, Id like to think he be BroncoDombrowski. His ass got cut from the mighty WMU baseball team just like mine did. Hahahaha)

Ha, yes. The Marlins title with DD and Leyland was 1997.

I don't fault DD for the 2003 Tigers, though. That was still a team of mostly players drafted/acquired by the incompetent Randy Smith.

DD did do well enough with his Marlins fire sale that it only took the next GM two years to win a ring after he left.

And it was Dombrowski who was GM when they signed a 16 year old Venezuealan kid in '99.
