I don't fault DD for the 2003 Tigers, though. That was still a team of mostly players drafted/acquired by the incompetent Randy Smith.

It's not like he thought Santiago and Infante were ready to start up the middle. But what was he going to do? The franchise was nearly talentless at that point. Climbed a very big hill, very quickly. Via trades, FA signings and many good draft selections.

But that was then, this is now. Should be a fun series over the weekend. Maybe not as good as Oakland/Seatle. Looks to be a little more on the line out there. Maybe. Still enough baseball left to make it hard to tell.
