Davey Lopes started an All Star game batting .176 and Harmon Killabrew started one batting .204....just FYI

Amazing this isn't brought up more.

You've always had a couple of these every once in awhile, where undeserving guys made it, but it's usually been perennial stars and sentimental choices... never anything on this scale.

Detroit Tigers Don Wert - 1 AS game, was batting .220 at start of All Star Game, finished .200 for the season - 1968. Yes there has been on this scale, oddly a Tigers player

he didn't have a ring at the time of the ASG and was NOT the lone representative of the Tigers that season, some names I guess you don't know Willie Horton, Bill Freehan, Denny McClain were AS reps for Tigers that season as well. Was just pointing out that it has been done on Omar's scale.

Maybe you misunderstood what I meant. By scale I wasn't talking about a clearly undeserving individual player here and there selected to start. That's happened many times. I meant when nearly an entire team of undeserving players were selected to start. I don't think we've seen that before. Correct me if I'm wrong.

1957 Cinncinati Reds, that has been talked about quite a bit

Well 57 was before my time so I looked it up. Apparently there was an investigation and Frick took the vote away from the fans the next season after putting in Aaron and Mays in place of the Reds OF starters. Something along those lines should probably happen this year too, but it won't.

The point was its happened before, baseball has been around long enough to have had it happen before. Baseball should have made a rule when it reinstated fan voting, that's their mistake.

The only potentially new thing never seen in baseball is having a pitcher pitch right and left handed facing a switch hitter and no rule to have either of them stop switching.

but with OnLine voting, anyone in the world can vote, different than ballot stuffing. Any of the 29 other teams could do the same thing and most have a much larger fan bases. Although - Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska Royals fans can now vote without having to trek to the game.

Well, despite Doug's optimism, I'm conceding the AL Central title this season if the Tigers continue to use Joba Chamberlain as an 8th inning guy.

The thing is though the ballots were distributed through the newspapers themselves. Bars would refuse service if you didn't vote Redlegs. Apparently, some ballots said, to paraphrase, "real fans vote for Redlegs." In short, this situation doesn't quite match up with 1957. Closest thing to the newspaper handing out ballots is MLB going online only I guess, but even then, everyone has the opportunity to vote if they have the internet.

From what we do know so far, there's no real ethical breach here to compromise the vote all and all. Just Royals fans voting more frequently- if you believe MLB anyway. Doesn't mean we won't see a repeat of Frick's move, but I'd be surprised.

Each twitter account I have seen of the 30 teams has some variant of #VoteTeam or VoteXPlayer, like the Astros account now using #VoteAltuve. So it seems a bit odd to me that people direct vitriol at the Royals when essentially every team, and MLB, encourages you to stuff the ballot. I do have to say, if anyone is voting for Infante based on performance, they need to be outed... that's just awful.
