a rod got his 3,000 hit.
of course verlander threw him a bone...or neat ball. just like denny mcclain did for micky mantle.
he hit a fast ball. say what you want about A Rod....never seen a batter hit a breaking ball as good.

Verlander sucks. Makes me feel somewhat better about the Sandoval contract.

Sale pitches a masterpiece (8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 14 K) and the White Sox are on the verge of losing.

Heck, might as well stuck with Greene.. McLain's career crashed after that pitch, 45-51 after that pitch, at least he hadn't crashed like Verlander before that pitch.

Verlander's brought a Tigers franchise back from lost decades, now his contract might put them right back where they started.

Pudge brought them back. Then Maggs.

JV gave up a couple Little League Field homers tonight. Dudes gonna be fine.

Pudge and Maggs were on the 71-91 05 team, guess they brought them back to the 70 win plateau, 06 Verlander went 17-9 and Tigs went 95-67, pretty sure Verlander made a major impact or maybe just a coincidence.

Two of those 05 losses were JVs. And Maggs only played half a year.

Nobody signed with Detroit until Pudge bought in. (Fernando Vina got the ball rollin'. But he didn't get to enjoy the ride. Still, he came as a FA. And started the uphill climb.). He and Maggs don't take the PizzaPizza money, Verlander gets dealt for prospects.

JV didn't hit any walk offs against Huston Street. And was shit against NY in the DS. He didn't take a team to the WS.

You don't win 43 games and three years later win a pennant because of a rookie pitcher that couldn't make it out of the sixth in the playoffs.

that line was pretty funny, give you that. How a 17-9 pitcher doesn't help a team get to the postseason after 20 years is pretty strange, no matter how many years in the league. JV was a major impact, from 06 to 13, guy was one of the best pitchers in the game. I really can't believe this is even debatable. The type of pitcher he is now, very debatable.

Ivan and Maggs didn't play in most of the resurgent years, Ivan got dumped in 08 and Maggs tail spinned, Verlander is the only constant during the Tigers run.

Verlander had a great rookie year, but he was getting some outstanding run support, hence the 17-9 record. The Tigers scored 6+ runs in 15 of his 30 starts. He was 13-1 in those games.

fair enough, you have to have hitting as well to be successful, Ivan, Maggs, Miggy, but it doesn't mean Verlander hasn't also been the constant in the Tigers big winning years. He has been very valuable to the run the Tigers put up. He showed up, Tigers started winning, dissappears this year and the Tigers are back to .500. That was my point, I wasn't trying to take away from the hitters.

The orginal point of Verlander's contract, now has more influence to his teams success than his pitching.
