Barrows:

Harbaugh said 49ers were contemplating trading w/ Vikings -- who ultimately traded w/ the Ravens -- and would have taken Jenkins in the 2nd.

So they did try the perfect scenario of getting their guy where he was projected to go but didn't have a trade partner. Not bad in the end since you get your guy a little early, I have no problem doing that late in a round.

imo jenkins beats out crabtree for that slot wr spot. this is assuming moss and manningham locks down the startiing spots.

Can only hope.....maybe crabtree has a good reason to show up in camp this time and put some effort in next season...but I doubt it...

Led the Big Ten in catches with 90 and had almost 1,300 yards with 8 Td's, and any guy that runs a 4.39/4.0 is nice to have

crabtree's best routes are post patterns to the bank to cash his checks

Vernon Davis is familiar with Jenkins through his brother, Vontae Davis, who also went to Illinois if you didn't know.

From the other thread...

Speaking of ignorance, let me preface all of my posts about AJJ by saying I didn't pay any attention to him at all. I thought the Niners had plenty of WRs...

So what I don't understand is that the Niners' big problem is that they can't punch it in when they get inside the red zone. If the Niners wanted a speedy WR wouldn't a 6'4 guy with a near 40 inch vertical (arm length???) like Hill make more sense to solve the red zone problem than a 6'0 guy?

Bach:

Trent Baalke says Jenkins fits the #49ers system in that he is versatile in where he can line up creating more for defenses to think about.

Watching some highlight reels of this kid, I LOVE the way he catches the ball. One of my biggest problems with Hill is that it seemed like every catch was a basket catch.

Well one piece of good news is that Ginn can now focus on just being a return guy.

Wonder if TB gave us a call. I would have taken 36 and a 4th rounder in a heartbeat if AJ Jenkins was my guy.

I wouldn't have traded down to 36 if it meant possibly losing the guy you have as a clear cut BPA. I don't know much about AJ Jenkins. I do know he ran a sub 4.4 40 and is a tremendous athlete in his own right. If you look at his measureables he's similar to Marvin Harrison coming out of college and also has great hands. Point being, you never know. If Baalke thought Stephen Hill could play he would have picked him. I love WR's that seperate and get open. AJ Jenkins looks to get good seperation from what I've seen. Good pick.

Jenkins looks faster on the field than Wright.
