does jenkins smell to anyone else like a less athletic brandon lloyd? to me he was a 3rd/4th rounder because of his frame.

How can he possibly be less athletic than Brandon Lloyd? :L

You guys are being surprisingly calm for taking a projected 4th rounder in the 1st. I like Jenkins a fair amount, but it's tough to justify a guy who almost certainly would have been there at your next pick.

Our GM has bought himself some of benefit of the doubt which is why people are being calm.

Most armchair GMs thought Aldon Smith and Chris Culliver were reaches at their spots yet they've both proven to be justified where they were taken and made a lot of people look like fools.

Jim Harbaugh: GM Trent Baalke wrote "AJ Jenkins" and put it in envelope last night. He was guy 49ers targeted in that spot.

ESPN analysis

What he brings: Jenkins is a smooth route-runner with good size and the top-end speed to stretch the field vertically. In addition, he shows soft hands and good body control. However, for him to take the next step to be an upper-echelon wide receiver, he must get stronger in traffic.

How he fits: At first glance, this position looks like it has good depth, but there are some question marks even though the foursome, Michael Crabtree, Ted Ginn and along with newly acquire Randy Moss and Mario Manningham gives them a lot of different options. Look for Ginn to move mostly to being a return guy and Jenkins could step in as a No. 4 receiver in sub-packages and could certainly be insurance for Moss if he doesn't produce as expected. Head coach Jim Harbaugh loves to give a defense a lot of exotic looks and multiple formations and he will use three- and four-wide receiver sets than you think and now he has the personnel to do it.

A.J. Jenkins received call from 49ers. He was so excited he has no idea with whom he spoke. He did not expect to be picked in 1st round.

Okay, so guys I'm real interested in in the 2nd round. Courtney Upshaw, Jerel Worthy, Devon Still, Lamar Miller, Peter Konz, Cordy Glenn and Brandon Boykin, in that order. Trade up for Upshaw.

We just signed Brooks to a pretty hefty contract, Aldon just missed the rookie sacks record by a .5 sack, I hope we don't trade up for a backup olb. I will admit that I would've rather seen them draft Upshaw vs re sign Brooks.

We have a void at rg, remember how bad our whole was until the one change at rg? That move alone improved guard and center, plus Snyder wasn't even a stud. Imagine if we get another massive stud like Glenn or Amini in there?

Barrows:

Harbaugh said 49ers were contemplating trading w/ Vikings -- who ultimately traded w/ the Ravens -- and would have taken Jenkins in the 2nd.

Just a thought... Maybe they're planning on packaging up Crabtree to move up in the 2nd. Can't say it would break my heart.

yup exactly. Most years I'd be more pissed because I think we drafted him a lot earlier then he shouldve gone, although i like the player, but I'm definitely giving baalke some room because I was critical last year with Aldon Smith.

Is this a joke? We made the NFC Title Game two years ago, and were 8-3 until our starting QB and RB got injured this year. Did you watch your first football game in December?

I didnt put my sarcastic face in but I was kidding around, I know they made it a couple years back. However the 49ers are a better team then the Bears. We have the best defense in the league and have added a ton of talent on offense not to mention your best player from last year wont even play for you and you lost your OC you might win 10 games
