The following could ALL be hitting .300 by the end of the season

Pagan (.307)
Panik (.309)
Posey (.294)
Panda (.291)
Pence (.294)
Beast (.280)

Six guys...that's pretty amazing in this deflated offense era.

Agreed, even more so considering how excruciatingly bad our offense was not so long ago.

Killer Ps!

Let's try to remember this feeling when we have a 2-4 week in September.

In the end, BoB, because you don't care about us, we don't really care about you either. So whatever.

Peace.

I never said I did'nt care. Just tired of all the negativity. This is a two time Championship team that has a lot of fight in them. It would be cool if there was more belief in the players and the team.

Why don't you start another selfie thread that you can talk to yourself in???

If you read the gotta be loose thread you would see it was for the team.

Get used to the thread because it is not going away.

That is your OPINION. Not a rule, or a law. I err on the side of LOGIC.

Being a fan is not about LOGIC. It's emotional. Or at least, it is for most people. You have your own skewed vision on things, maybe you just view this as numbers vs numbers, and hope our numbers are better than theirs. Free country and all, but it invites some ball busting.

So yeah, my opinion, here in the world of meaningless sports fandom, is giving up on a good team in early July is weak. I'm fairly sure I'm not the only one with that opinion.

No, you just said you 'just want to do your thing' which includes ignoring most of what we post. Like ripping tzill when he invites it.

Again, go do your thing, keep doing threads just for you, you don't have to care about us or our opinions or how you come across to us. And we'll continue to ignore you. And be negative when we feel like it. Because guess what? It's not always positive for every player every dang week.

Peace.

And as you would say: you made that abundantly clear. That others may share that opinion means nothing. Most everyone believed the sun moved around the earth. Didn't make it true. Didn't make Copernicus wrong.

This is conventional wisdom, but it's actually wrong.

The Southern League AA average OPS the last four seasons was .714, for the Texas League it was .723, and for the EL it was .723, the same, but in three of the past four seasons, the EL had a higher OPS than the Texas League (the TL had a huge 2011 season). The EL for three of the past four seasons, in fact, had a higher OPS than the SL or TL, and so far this season has a higher OPS as well (.724 vs. .712 vs. .695). Thus, I find it hard to say that the EL is a pitcher's league, relative to the other AA leagues. And it is hard to say that even relative to AAA or Advanced A, as then you would have to call all three AA leagues pitcher's leagues, as that would not make too much sense to me.

Then this other angle to the data really opened my eyes. From 2010 to 2014, the EL ranked 4th, 6th, 3rd, 3rd, and 4th out of the 10 full season leagues in OPS. In other words, it has been one of the top offensive leagues in four out of the last five seasons. I do not see how you can label one of the top offensive full season leagues as a "pitcher's league." The Texas League, which was in the bottom half in four of the last five seasons could be labeled that, and the Southern League three of five could be labeled that, but the EL very clearly is a hitter's league among all the leagues, and a hitter's league compared to the other AA leagues.

From what the data shows, the Giants farm teams are all in hitters league in their levels. Clearly so for Fresno and San Jose, as both have been first or second in every season. Richmond has also surprisingly been a hitter's league as well, and Augusta is clearly a hitter's league compared to the other A-level and been generally in the middle among all the full season leagues, and so, at minimum, can't be labeled a pitcher's league. None of the Giants full-season minor league teams look like they can be labeled "pitcher's leagues."

Thus, it is a misnomer to label the Eastern League a pitcher's league; it only appears that way compared to the Pacific Coast League and the California League. However, when you look at their rankings, the EL is at worst neutral, but mostly a hitter's league, compared to its fellow AA leagues.

Interesting. I must say that ever since I've dug into minor league research, AA has been considered the big pitchers league. And I just kinda went along with it. I wonder though if there is more to it. The ballparks are bigger I believe, which attributes to the "conventional wisdom". It's tougher to hit homers in these AA EL parks, and the weather plays a factor as well. Maybe not. I know that Richmond has a big ballpark, and suppresses offense, on average. Can't say for the other ballparks.

In any case, even in an average hitters/pitchers league, Snodgrass hasn't put up numbers that scream Major League pitcher, and his stuff doesn't refute that claim either [I know you weren't arguing that case].

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, it's something I'm curious to look into now.

Consider, just for a minute, Señor Snarkenstein, the haul we could've gotten for the players I wanted to trade (Romo, Timmah, Huddy, Tron, Scoots, Morse).

We might've even been able to dump a good portion of Timmah's contract.

I'm gonna throw something out here as far as Lincecum goes and you guys can bounce it around. I feel that His problem is that he can't contort the way he could when he was younger. At 30 he should be in his prime as a pitcher but I think that due to the fact he can't move the way he could say 5 or 6 years ago has made all the difference in his performance. I really don't think he's broke because that would imply that he could be fixed and I really don't think he can. I'd be interested in seeing film of him when he was dominate and film now to see if there is a difference in his mechanics. I haven't seen anybody bring this up and it's been something I've been pondering this year. I may be wrong but right now I think anything is a possibility.

I am not sure if it has been mentioned, but this has been my assumption for years. Timmeh was a gymnast, and used those skills in his delivery. Now that he isn't a 14 year old girl any more, he is unable to do what he used to be able to do.

And if any of those teams had gone 6-18 it would have been indicative of a fatal flaw. I which case, selling would have made sense.

Are you TRYING to be obtuse?

Yes. So obtuse.

We're almost talking different languages here. I think I'll withdraw, saying only that we have very different ideas of fandom. I suspect you'll be a bit upset if the Giants make the playoffs, or god forbid win the division. How could logic fail you so!

So with half the season left and your team in the thick of the division race you would be a seller based on a 24 game stretch?
