Hadn't thought about this before. A quick scan of our season so far shows we did it twice:

4/10 vs. AZ 7:15p start
4/30 vs. SD 7:15p start.

Of course, both those are west coast teams; not sure where they were headed after leaving AT&T.

I noticed the Chubs did it to us last year.

I looked at their remaining schedule, and they actually only do it about 1/2 the time. I wonder if they get the "OK" from the visiting team to do that??

2nd half-

Giants are 1-7 when, well, you know.

For the season-

Giants are 15-39 (.278) when, well, you know.

Score early, we got a chance. With this team, not scoring first, 72+% chance of taking a loss. And growing.

Stokes, that stat is really pretty worthless without some context.

I suspect most teams put up very similar splits.

I posted a week or so ago that with the Giants' last four years, this year is by far the worst in this split.

They have averaged playing about .350 ball when not scoring first, this year is .278 (year not over, obviously)

They have averaged around .700 ball when scoring first, this year is .786 (year not over, obviously)

I will see if I can find my post. And yes, this is purely statistical, and doesn't take into account a lot off factors, but that's what makes it stark.

This year's team just cannot come back when falling behind. They have had exactly two come from behind wins since June 9th, which is a pretty decent sample size within the season.

Went back to 2011. (From a previous post.) I still have not seen anywhere to find this team stat (without paying). I may do some time in the off season to go back another ten years with the Giants to see.

To be fair, I assume that a team that scores first wins a higher % of games than if it does not score first. That seems a no brainer, to score 1st relieves pressure on the pitcher and the hitters and the defense. To continue to have to come back from a deficit can be wearing on a team.

I hadn't tracked this before, and this year's stats just seem so out of whack compared to the previous several years. In the last 46 games, the Giants have initially trailed in 26 games, and lost 24 of them. I have no idea what that says definitively, but it does seem to indicate that the team has difficulty making a comeback to win games in which it trails first.

OTOH, in those 46 games, the Giants have scored first in 20 of them, and have won 15 of them.

2014

.786 when scoring first (44-12)
.278 when not scoring first (15-39)
(.508 difference)

2013

.610 when scoring first (47-30)
.341 when not scoring first (29-56)
(.269 difference)

2012

.755 when scoring first (68-22)
.361 when not scoring first (26-46)
(.394 difference)

2011

.677 when scoring first (63-30)
.333 when not scoring first (23-46)
(.344 difference)

2010

.759 when scoring first (63-20)
.367 when not scoring first (29-50)
(.392 difference)

2010-2014 averages

.714 when scoring first (285-114)
.340 when not scoring first (122-237)
(.374 difference)

I remember the post.

I am just reiterating the point.

I have looked for the stat through google and have found nothing.

Taking out one of our big bats? What, exactly, has this "big bat" done for us in the last two months? As much as I am down on Guppy (as a leadoff guy), he is a fine defender. Bochy erred by not putting him in there.

Saying Blanco would have made the play; and saying Bochy made a mistake by not making a sub THAT inning are two totally different things.

Calling out Boch is just 20/20 intelligence.

Everything about his post was accurate, except the "dfad" part.

That actually shows a high skill-level of trolling. It is kinda like mixing in just a little bit of shit into a bag of chocolates...

Yes, he should have said "released". ;)

Chocolate.

Leather.

Sofa.

Plan ahead, fella's.

But *I* had been munching on "Flamin' Hot" Cheetos since noon, the chocolate sofa wouldn't have helped much.

(I am kidding about eating cheetos on Sat - but years ago I did eat an entire bag of "hot cheetos" and almost had a heart attack when I 'did my business' the next morning. "The business" was same color as the cheetos. Scared me to death until my sleepy brain realized what had happened - I had thought I was bleeding internally until I remembered what I had for my afternoon snack the day before.)

Unrelated story...

My niece has Crohns Disease, and we all did a walk for them about a year ago or so, and one of the booths was set up with promotional food for everyone to eat for free.

Well, these geniuses decided that "Hot Cheetos" would be a great snack a Crohns walk. Needless to say, there wasn't a lot of snacking that day.

If you don't find this humorous, look up Crohns Disease...
