Giants back in the race ...win 5-2 over Phillies

How fast can a season turn well just ask the Giants who were 5 1/2 out in the West just a few days ago. Today they closed to 3 1/2 games and only 2 back in the loss column winning over the Phillies 5-2.

Lincecum gets the win battling over 5 innings but only gave up 2 ER while giving up 7 hits and 4 walks. It seems like when the bullpen is on the Giants win and they were on going 4 shutout innings with Casilla getting the save.

The young guys Panik and Susac each had 2 hits and were key players in the victory. Too bad that near the end of the game Panik dislocated his pinky sliding into second base on a hustle play moving up on a overthrow. Morse continues to pound the baseball going 3-3 and scoring 2 runs. Crawford had a big 2 RBI's to add to the team win.

It's starting to get interesting in the West as the Dodgers get swept at home and the Giants take this series 2 games to 1. The grind continues in these dog days as the Giants head out to Chicago and Wrigley Field to take on the Cubs. Vogey gets the call Tuesday. On this beautiful Sunday the Giants are back in the West race so pull that roller coaster strap a little tighter and enjoy the ride.

Go Giants !!:plane:

Yeah, it looked a bit nasty when he injured it.

He says it is dislocated and he is day to day. I hope that is true.

It looked like it shattered. It looked nasty.

Anyone else see the pay?

MLB.com has some good video:

MLB.com Gameday | MLB.com: Gameday

Scroll down till you see "Panik's Injury".

Can't tell the extent of the injury from the video, but I'm guessing if he "shattered" it, he would have been in a lot more pain than he showed. Looks like a dislocation, but that's pure speculation on my part.

The "Paniks injury" video just shows him standing there. The video about the Ryno challenge had a REALLY good, slo-Mo shot of his slide, and his pinky just collapsing.

I agree, though, that if it were as bad as it looked, a normal human being would have shown more pain in his face. I guess this kid just doesn't have any panic in him.

You must have gotten it out of sync somehow. At 0:35 - 0:40 of "Panik's Injury" it shows a slo-mo close-up where his left pinky gets caught on the base as he slides through.

First time they've won two in a row at home since the first week of June, per Kruk.

On the at-bat app, the "Paniks injury" vid was JUST his standing there. Either they swapped out the vids, or the web page has a different vid.

Anyway, I trust what the people directly involved say over what I think I saw...

Ah. I'm at my desktop - perhaps the phone app for MLB is indeed different.

Time to skip Timmy in the rotation when the Giants have a day off.

They are off tomorrow, but would have to push back Peavy's start to skip Timmy.

I dunno. He did get a win today, and he sure had a good streak going earlier in the season. I would hate to miss out on the start of another one of those.

Then keep throwing him out there.

He got lucky today.

Wins don't mean shit (the pitcher stat, not the team stat).

As for his hot streak, hasn't his not streak now lasted longer than his hot streak?

No choice, not much SP depth...he's almost there as a semi reliable 3rd starter

Finally winning some games they'd have lost a few weeks ago.

2 games out in loss column.... :noidea:

I was looking at that doyer rotation right now; after Kershaw and Greinke it's a shitshow. OTOH, the doyers are hitting the softest part of thier schedule -- 11 games against the chubbs, puds, and dbags.

I'd just like to see us play well irrespective of what they do.

:agree:

Good to see injuries hitting teams we are chasing too...

And the Padres are pretty hot right now. As expected it will come down to September baseball vs the NL West and each other.
