The starting pitching hasn't been the weak link for a month and a half.

We stopped hitting. Every team does but good teams don't for long. We'll see if we're a good team.

That said, I have way more faith that Cueto will be a good pitcher than Samardjiza. We don't have any evidence that he is one.

Actually it's not so easy. He's meh but still one of our better hitters. If we are fighting for a wild card we can't trade him. But we probably don't re-sign him either.

(Assuming they don't trade him) I think they let him walk. He's just been okay, but nothing to special. He hasn't really even endeared himself to the fans as of yet. I don't think there would be a tremendous uproar if they parted ways.

If the Giants do end up going all-out for Harper, maybe Cutch will be their plan B.

I don't think they trade him regardless because he hasn't been hitting well enough to command a huge package. The compensation they'd get for extending him a qualifying offer will probably be greater.
