A story running in this morning's Urinal/Sentinel stated that the deal was nixed due to Wheeler failing a physical.

Felt bad for Flores but I would cry too if I was traded to the Brewers. They are shitty this year

I like yer self-deprecating comment, but I'm still baffled by the first comment: How does a guy who is on the DL "fail" a physical??? He's already unable to perform regular baseball dealies.

The book is pretty much open about Wheeler's injury and surgery. What could have possibly surprised the Brewers about his condition?

According to the story, the Brewers knew he was recovering from TJ surgery but were unhappy with the medical reports. Apparently, he hasn't made the progress that

LOL...thanks for finishing!

This story said that Wheeler's health had nothing to do with the deal falling through:

"Wheeler's medical information had seemed the most likely to scuttle a trade. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in March, he had just started to resume throwing this week.

But a source told ESPN.com that Wheeler's medical information played no role in the deal disintegrating."

New York Mets-Milwaukee Brewers deal fizzles; Scott Boras says Carlos Gomez OK

Who knows what the reality is. Unfortunately for the Mets, they do not have the best track record in re: being forthright and ethical, so naturally everyone will assume that they screwed it up somehow. I can't blame them for that.

Can't blame the local papers for defending their own team. All the NY rags are going on and on about how it was Gomez's medical file that was the cause.

"You didn't dump us, WE dumped YOU!"

Either way, no matter which team pulled the plug, you don't do stuff like this. You hurt the other team from making a fair trade for that player. Who's going to want Gomez now? "hhmmm...the Mets are a shitty franchise, and THEY didn't want Carlos...why would we want him?"

Strange to me that my Rangers dealt for Hammels. He's obviously a great pitcher and all, but it seems unlikely to me that he can make much of a difference. Team ERA is now 27th in the majors. Can Hammels get us to under 25th?

This move is for the next three seasons. Not this one.

I'm heading back to MA tomorrow for the week. Buddy of mine texts to ask if he should get Red Sox tix for us. My response: "please don't".

Only the Mets

Only the Mets could have a kid crying out in the field because he is moving from NYC to Milwaukee

And he doesn't even get traded

No one else

and that is why they are such a poorly run organization! Though watch this kid get traded right before the deadline... Wouldn't put it past the Mets!

God I hope not. Come on Houston!

Still some pretty-good starters out there that could be traded: Leake, Shields, Cashner, Haren, Ross, Iwakuma, Gallardo and maybe some others that I'm missing. Yankees have to get at least one of those guys, right? Especially with Pineda hitting the DL today.
