Machi sent down, Kontos up.

The Greek appeals his suspension and is eligible to pitch. (what was he suspended for?)

Wasn't he suspended for hitting a batter after the benches were warned. Bochy suspended too, right?

I think you are right. That happened the same day as the big Snake/doggie brawl, didn't it?

In case you were curious -

M. Ellis 2B
Puig RF
Gonzalez 1B
Ramirez SS
Hairston LF
Ethier CF
Uribe 3B
A.J Ellis C
Ryu P

Looks like the Dodgers are going with a B lineup today, as the outfield, outside of Puig, is not making me too confident about tonight.

Hairston has been a Giant-Killer his whole career, though. Expect to see him play a lot this series.

That, and Mattingly has very rarely played Carl Crawford against lefties, and I'm assuming the only reason Ethier is getting ABs against MadBum is due to Matt Kemp's hamstring issues. It may be the Dodgers' B-line-up, but that was probably always going to be the case. You're right, though. I wouldn't be surprised if Hairston starts every game in this series.

You guys know more about my team and players than I do. I have always and only seen him as a vetran fill in, not knowing which teams he does well or poorly against. Thank you for that education guys.

We only know because we've cursed him and his brother for the better part of a decade. ;) We don't even have to look at the numbers to know he owns the Giants. Most of us were hoping SF would sign him just to improve the Team ERA a little bit. Obviously, someone in the Dodgers' front office was aware of the history. :)

That is something that does not happen as much as it used to. That being, signing a guy that has in the past killed your team. On the surface, that move will always make sense, in that if "he keeps beating you, get him to join you".

In the past, the Giants have been more inclined to use that thinking with pitchers. I doubt Kirk Rueter or Mark Portugal would have landed in SF were it not for unusually stellar performances against them. EDIT: But yeah, it seems silly to potentially "waste" a roster spot on a "one-trick pony." However, there are many different reasons why a player does well against a certain team, and if one of those is that he likes to play in your home ballpark, it is certainly worth a look. 81 games is a lot.

FYI...

Kemp and Crawford are both on the DL. Their not playing is not a Mattingly decision...
