Bad strike 3 call in our favor but I like it!

Zito with some swagger that inning...like that too!

I was thinking that too, the superduper stars rarely do. They are just so talented they find it hard to explain how to do what they do.

But Bonds comes across as pretty good at talking about hitting. Maybe a few more years and he'll be humble enough.

I hope so. Perhaps this makes no sense but...I feel sorry for the guy. I'd love to see him back in the game, and a more visible presence with the organization.

The thing Bonds can teach a young player is how to observe and track the pitch to pitch adjustments being made to get them out.

Zito batting in the bottom of the 7th, leading 4-1. All we could have hoped for and then some.

Guys like him usually don't succeed as coaches. He was too damn good, and too cocky, to humble himself to work with the Manny Burrisses of the world.

I wonder if those young fans realize they're seated in front of a legend (Simmons).

I tend to disagree. I think when it comes to strictly coaching, it may be difficult to relay what they see or look for, but essentially everyone is trying to look for the same thing when it comes to hitting. He may not have the proper pedagogy to do it, but I think he can relay the fundamentals just fine. What you're referring to is if, say, he become a scout or some kind of talent evaluator. That's when they fail (think Michael Jordan).

I don't know if I feel sorry for him, he brought a lot of bad karma on himself. But he's suffered enough for it.

I once read part of his workouts was to have a tennis machine shooting balls at him that each had a different number written on them in black marker: like 1 through 5. He'd hit them back (with a tennis racket) calling out the number on the ball as he did so. Pretty good eye on that guy.

Looks deflated.

I enjoyed the interview. The more humble Bonds is fan appealing

He was always the nicest guy when going through a slump...and a total a-hole when going well. Complicated guy.

Take it home guys. Gotta go.

Oh yes. His GMing skills are the exact opposite level of his playing skills.

Exception proving the rule: Larry Bird

I think the knowledge is there. Its the people skills needed to send the message that I have my doubts with.

I would not let Zito pitch the eighth.

I tend to agree, but he was pretty nasty (for him) recently. Maybe a super short leash?

I read somewhere (or did I hear it on KNBR) that steroids can actually improve your eyesight. I can't remember ever seeing a guy who could wait so long before deciding to swing at a pitch. The only guy who comes close in my lifetime is Pujols.

As for feeling sorry...I'm a bit of a sentimental fool. The dude had a weird upbringing, the world loved him for a time, was disgraced, and now he's largely forgotten. But hey, he lived the good life, and I imagine he's loaded.

Later guys.
