So I'm watching Dodgers-Padres on MLB Network right now. I think it's the Padres' crew (honestly, it's tough to tell, but Scully would travel to SD right?). I noticed Mark Sweeney is part of their crew.

Cal is right though, these guys blow. They were talking about potential All-Star OFers. The list:

Harper. Certainly.
Cespedes. Yeah.
Bruan. Yes
McCutchen. Well he had a terrible start but he's coming around and his numbers should be good by then so fine.
Kemp. Are you kidding?! The dude with a .250 OBP?! Who doesn't lead the league in anything? Then they went on to talk about Stanton, who has not had a great start himself.

Just terrible.
Sweeney is a part-timer on their crew, so yes, you are watching the Padre team.

I refuse to watch any Padre games that I don't HAVE TO watch. They are just infuriating.

SP stats, May 6-21

Avg IP: 7.0
Avg H: 5.9
Avg BB: 1.6
Avg K: 6.2
Avg HR: 0.3
Avg PQS: 4.2

The only two non-DOM starts are, you guessed it, PV.

5/9 he had PQS of 3 (average)
5/20 he had PQS of 0 (Disaster)

You've got to wonder if he takes the ball next Wed vs. Pads....

I think there is a pretty high probability that Suarez gets the nod. We are far enough into the season, I think, where something needs to happen.

Dodgers lose on walk-offs to the Padres on consecutive nights. :D
Bottom of the 11th goes like this:

Tsao pitching for dogs

Myers singles.

Kemp flies out.

Upton flies out.

Myers steal 2nd.

Norris walks: Ball: 4 Strike:1

Wallace walks: Ball: 4 Strike: 1

Solarte walks on 4 balls.

This Tsao guy sounds pretty good, they should keep running him out there. So good, the Rockies couldn't even hold on to him

If Cain is truly 'back' as an effective starter we are looking really good. Just need the pen to figure shit out.

I think once Romo's back a lot of that sorts itself out.

CL - KCya
8th - Romo, Gearrin
7th - Strick, Kontos, Osich
LOOGY - JLo

I am cautiously optimistic about Cainer. He looks like he still has "stuff". It just took him a little longer to get used to his new arm than we all hoped.

That said, this is only a 3-game stretch after about 2 or 3 years of absolute dreck. Caution is a requirement here.

Gearrin over Strick/Osich in the 8th?

I am not sure I subscribe to that.

Pretty safe to call Cain the #4 SP, even though the chronological order doesn't happen that way.

The PV issue is vexing. No clear alternative, but picking one out of a hat can't be worse.

Maybe they could have a randomly picked fan start instead of PV. It would make for a great promotion.

Romo coming back (and being effective) will go a long way for sure.

The timing didn't work but who here wouldn't prefer to see what Lincecum could do with his spot?

Nah. Too much baggage.

I would rather see Suarez or any number of the other kids have a SHOT at the spot rather that Timmeh GIVEN the spot.

To each his own, I disagree.

Maybe so, but IMHO, nobody in the minors has shown that they're ready to step up. Amazing how fast Heston dropped off the radar, as has Blackburn. Almost want to give Beede or Bickford a shot.

But if they can win the division with what we have, obviously, we won't need 5 SPs in the playoffs. That's quite a roll of the dice, though.
