My comment was in reaction to the "progression to the bigs was rushed a bit" comment, obviously (since I quoted it). Bocock was there because Vizquel was injured to start the season - let's not start any revisionist history here.

He was severely rushed, only added to the 40-man and made the team because of an injury by the projected starter.

Nothing revisionist about it. That Giants team was in clear cost cutting mode. Did you really think Omar vizquel was the answer at SS? They had scrubs at almost every position and did not want to spend for any semblance of a bench.

Another FPOM

How the heck can these hitters be so bad with RISP? Is the hitting coach to blame? What the hell is going on here? These hitters are doing worse than last year, if that is possible. The team average is higher, but the hitting with RISP is lower by 25+ points. The goal is not to hit for average, but to drive in runs, is it not?

:mad2:

Bernsie had a nice theory, which I intend to look into later this week. He thinks pitchers tend to throw more breaking stuff with RISP, and the Giants hitters are mostly fastball hitters.

uhhhh... no. They had already signed Vizquel to a new contract before the '08 season, with an option for '09. Said NEW contract was worth more (annually) than his previous contract ($5M in '08 vs. $4M in '07). Then, just before the season started he was injured (nobody knew for how long) so they called up a rook.

As I said, revisionist history (or faulty memory, I suppose).

Scrubs? If only Ortmeier hadn't broken his finger.

Patience may have something to do with it as well. As soon as we have RISP, the hitters seem jumpy. Not looking for a pitch they want to hit, they are hacking at everything, with a lot of first pitch outs.

Also, we seem to be continually awful in fundamental hitting. Productive outs seem a foreign concept.

I wish this were just a "slump", but this has been going on since game 1 this season. Yeah, 24 games is a SSS, but the trajectory looks and feels all too familiar.

Wonder if Pujols is available...

All true......

Pujols sale... 20% markdown. Almost doable.

Wait, what? We're actually hitting like Pujols is so far this year. And that ain't good.

Well, I can't argue the faulty memory part lol

I just recall vizquel being one of the cheapest options at the time. Market value of players were still high from the enhancement era.

Just what the Marlins needed, a trip to SF to turn around their awful start.

Oh and they can take their faggy unis to the Castro.

IIRC, Vizquel was put on the DL the same day (or very, very close to it) that Bocock was added to the 40-man and then added to the active roster.
