This comes at a perfect time for us too. Whether one of these guys makes the Nhl this coming year or in 2018, they will be growing right along with the rest of our young prospects and this team will be dynamite shortly.

Getting the 2nd pick is exactly what they needed. They'll be able to draft a very high end forward prospect that will come in and immediately be the Flyers best forward prospect, probably best prospect in general. It was the major hole in the organization and the lottery helped fill it.

I am seeing some people elsewhere mulling over the idea that we trade this pick away (down)

It's just clickbait - trying to make news where there isn't any. Go with your gut on this one - no way they trade down. The Flyers will draft whichever of Patrick and Hischier the Devils don't pick. But, that's pretty boring for the sportswriters...

The more I read about Patrick the more he reminds me of Couturier. Good/great in all areas, not truly elite in any. Even had health issues in his draft year that brought a likely #1 overall pick down a peg (or 6 in Couturier's case). They're basically the same size too (6'3 - 200). Though Patrick is that size as an 18 yr old. Couturier was pretty wiry as an 18 year old IIRC. Both have NHL players in their family tree. It does seem like Patrick is a notch above Couturier offensively (1.26ppg in his WHL career compared to 1.21ppg in the Q for Coots). And the Q is typically significantly less defensive than the W.

Hischier just seems more dynamic offensively. And IMO that's what the Flyers need more of. Hard for me to say I'll be disappointed if the Flyers end up with Patrick as most scouts continue to say he's the best prospect in the draft, but Hischier just seems electric. Giroux, Couturier, Vecchione, Filpula, PEB, Read, Simmonds, they're all already solid+ defensively. Where's that guy you turn to when you need a goal down late? Hischier could be that guy.

I'd call the scouting reports on Patrick somewhere in the middle between Jonathan Toews and Sean Couturier. The Devils' scouts are the ones with the pressure on. If he's projected to be closer to Toews you take him. If it's closer to Couturier you take Hirschier.

In the interest of full disclosure, I was not aware that the draft lottery was Saturday night before the late game. I simply taped both games because I could not be awake for them and then began watching the tapes yesterday morning. Definitely got some bonus coverage and a massive shock when they were announcing the top 15 picks and ours went to someone else at 13, which they informed bumped us into the top 3.

The worst western conference teams definitely got screwed and our division reaped the benefits.

That's another point I saw that Hexy had made Saturday night. We truly have had a ton of bad luck this season and to be the first team ever to move up to 2nd from as far back as 13th in the draft order may just make up for it all.

These other teams that are drafting in the top 7 have a lot of holes in their rosters and are nowhere near playoff worthy, let alone ready to be true Cup contenders. I do not think that is the case with our squad. We are much, much further along in the process.

Excellent read!!!!

You would be wrong, I do know. For the first time in my life I don't know which I am more excited about.

The new football season to start, or the new Hockey season to start!!!!!
The fans at the NFL draft were awesome. I was wondering what they would've done had it rained and it was held out doors.

Some scouts have compared Hischier to Washington’s Nicklas Backstrom, which says tons about his overall ability.

I like what im hearing

next season is going to be so fun..

Hischier/Patrick
Hagg
Morin
Myers
Lindblom
Sanheim

All with very legitimate chances to make the team. Add that to Konecny, Ghost, and Provorov.. going to be a young team!
