Call me crazy but I think he plays the game to win Super Bowls. If he feels one of the other teams gives him a better shot then lots of luck. I look forward to stomping his ass in the SB.

I thought that's exactly what Manning didn't want.....

;)

I was thinking the same thing Juice, havent heard that since the Espn Boards. If there was no cap, I think he would see what they were willing to do. This isnt baseball Crash.

I have major doubts this will come up but this is something I haven't seen brought up yet:

Kawakami: 49ers' pitch for Peyton Manning is a shocker - San Jose Mercury News

Interestingly, just last January, Harbaugh had the chance to take more money from Miami and turned it down (as Manning apparently has done, too), and Harbaugh also drew interest from Denver.

And Harbaugh took the 49ers' job, for very good but not overpowering money, and he did it because he believed it was his best chance to set things up properly.

He has done that. I think that will be a strong pitch to Manning.

I can go either way on Manning, and would be excited to see him play here......but when you start talking about $20 mil a year......and that's for FIVE years - the yearly would actually be even more in reality as he'll retire sooner - I am almost certainly against that. They just don't need a QB that badly, compared to all the other things they can do with that amount of cash.

There are reports that Manning reached out to the 9ers? Sorry if this was posted I'm all jumbled up right now

This is what I found earlier

From Eric Branch:
Did Peyton Manning contact the #49ers? From SI story this week by @SI_JimTrotter: "The owner of one 2011 playoff team told SI that while his club was not pursuing Manning, it would seriously consider signing him (pending a positive medical report) if he phoned and said he wanted to play for them.”

Obviously it doesn't say 49ers but it would make complete sense if you consider the playoff teams that would be in the market for a QB and the "We're not pursuing Manning" to the sudden "We're in the thick of things with Manning."

I think the whole preferring to play in the AFC is being blown way out of proportion. I'm sure he would pick the AFC if all things were equal between teams but I seriously doubt he would pass us up for that reason because of a chance to play Eli in the playoffs.

I think the primary issue would be the contract and how much he really wants. The front office has shown so far they really don't like to tie up a lot of money into one player so I'm not sure if they'll give him his "old" contract like he wants.

A secondary and a lesser issue would be the Peyton and Harbaugh coexisting. I firmly believe they can coexist but I would imagine Peyton wouldn't have as much control with us than he would with the Broncos and Titans who seem like they would let him do whatever he wants.

Holy cow broncos have a lot of cap space. They can throw the money at him thats for sure.

When you have an opportunity to get one of the best QB's of all time you do it, sure there is a risk about re-injury to his neck, missing a year, etc... but the rewards out way the risks by a large margin. I was opposed to Vick, Kolb, McNabb, etc... because they were not clear upgrades to what we had, Payton Manning is a clear upgrade. If we can get him then we should, we have all the pieces in place to make a run over the next 3 seasons with or without him, with him increases our chances.

I think this is also something that gets blown out of proportion. Peyton knew the scheme so well in Indy and was in said scheme for so long, they trusted him and had total confidence in his decision making. If you had coaches that were not capable of running the team in its entirety, why sign with them anyway?

He would likely have to take less and it really depends on how badly he wants a chance at another ring.

RG and WR can be addressed through the draft.

Peyton Manning - QB - Colts

"there are at least two teams ready to jump into the fray." The Manning camp has spoken with both teams, one of which we presume is the 49ers.

I did say it was a lesser and secondary issue. My main point was to say the Broncos and Titans are going to roll out the red carpet and treat him like a God and will give him pretty much complete autonomy over the offense.

I can see Harbaugh molding and adjusting his offense around Peyton like any good coach would but I don't see him bending over backwards to cater to what Peyton wants.
