Yeah, wasn't it Kurt Warner who fucked with the Niners last year to get a free flight up here and a free meal, when he had no intrest at all?

LOL. Doesn't he have enough money to pay for his own trips to the Bay Area?

We had a crappy RG playing last year and nearly made the super bowl. That was with Smith, a guy who isn't exactly known for his quick decision-making and pocket presence. Manning is exceptional in both areas. Smith took more sacks last year than Manning did in his last three seasons combined, and that Indy OL was shaky the past few years.

And again, there is a draft, and lots of interior OL play in year one and play well. The fact that we let Snyder walk also tends to indicate that we have some faith in Kilgore.

Even if WR and OG are a concern, how are they more of a concern with Manning at QB than with Smith at QB? The only reason would be the neck issue, but doctors have cleared Manning to take hits, so the concern seems to be relatively low. It's not as if Smith has been a particularly sturdy player.

I think the point is that the money could go to improving other area's, but like you said we had a crappy RG last year and it didn't keep us from the NFC Championship game with Alex Smith.

I wonder what his reasoning is on why that would be the best thing for the NFL. Obviously, the best thing for Niners fans is for us to have a Hall of Fame QB.

So let's look at the positives for each of the three finalists for Manning:

First the Broncos:

Titans:

Wife from Tennessee, played for the Vols, good OL, talented at WR and RB.

49ers:
By far more talented than the Titans & Broncos. Maybe the most talented team in the NFL outside of the QB position. Top 2 or 3 defense. Very QB friendly system, potentially great OL if the Niners get a good RG. Most talented TE in the NFL. NO TEXANS IN THE DIVISION.

None of these are dome teams. Denver is freezing; the Bay area has wet but relatively warm winters.

Nashville average January high / low: 46 / 28.
SF high / low in January: 57 / 46.
Denver: Freeze you balls off

LOL. I'm excited. I think the Niners fit his needs the most. Hopefully, he will find the money to be acceptable.

I'm still cracking up at Seattle's attempt to snag Manning. Total fail.

I'm angry the Titans signed Steve Hutchinson though. That was a great signing. 3 years 16 million. I'd take take that Manning or no Manning.

How funny would it be if no team signed Smith?

I think if Alex had any other agent he would have signed by now, either because the other agent wasn't aware of the Peyton Manning reality or the other agent would have more time to work on the details. I've said all along that there was no reason for the Niners to profess their interest in Manning to the public until it was likely to not drag out long. I think they wanted to sign Alex to a low, short deal because it one) gave an opportunity for Kaep soon and two) would get a good backup for Manning if we got him. I wasn't sure we'd go for Manning, but wasn't freaking out either about the "no interest" because they had no reason to show it publicly. They wanted Alex to sign and then go for Manning. Smith could have signed and possibly blocked Manning but perhaps not -he'd likely be as expensive as Kolb (he restructured today) for not starting, but be a good backup for us. Good for Smith for not signing the deal - he can go backup someone who is more likely to fail. I think Condon knew about this all along.
