Sept. 2, 1972 - The Summit Series between Canada and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (aka CCCP) began. It didn't take long to figure out that the USSR was going to give the Canadians no end of trouble.

Yep, the Russians put a hurtin on the Canadian team in game 1. They brought a style that hadn't been seen in these parts before. strategies like cycling the puck and such came from that series. All in all I think hockey in the NHL, and the world, benefited from that series.
