I DO remember many of the naysayers and milquetoasts on this board who didn't want to re-sign Pence and thought we way overpaid when we did.

Correct. We traded for Pence 8/1/2012. Melky was suspended 8/15/2012.

Now, did our FO know something was about to go down with Melky before trading for Pence? That is the $90mm question.

I thought it was rather accepted that the news was already out that he had a suspension coming. There was a big hubub at the time about Baggs having to apologize to Melky for running a story a couple weeks prior about his failing a test. When the new broke that he actually failed and was being suspended, Baggs put it in Melkys face a bit.

I doubt the Pence trade gets made if the Giants dont know Melky was going down shortly.

Don't remember what side of the fence I was on. I loved Pence and wanted him back, but I may have bitched and moaned about the money.
