is it without pay? That'll send a message, not only 25 games but also without pay.

im ok with them dropping the hammer on this guy because they needed to send a message to him. My only issue his hit, while it was terrible, was at least in the action of the game...still dirty. What Asham and Weber did was a joke and Asham got 4 games but Weber got nothing.

Message has been sent. Hopefully the cheap shots will lessen for the remainder of the playoffs.

Hopefully Torres will learn, but I doubt it..

I'm sure it will... Just needs to be unloaded on a player of worth. That'll really send a message.

Exactly.

25 games for a 4th liner doesn't say much. When a player like Weber or Neal get at least 5 games for the crap they've done this postseason then & only then will players really take notice.

Asham could have had charges brought.....

comeds...I kept hearing Damphousse was going to have a new role in MTL. Any news

There have been rumors he would be at least considered for the GM spot. I would think they are just rumors as I think they would want someone with some front office experience. But then again rumors persists Roy will be considered as the next coach despite the obvious train wreck that would be. It do think it would be fun to have Vinny do something to do with the team but not GM.

I think it's a little harsh. Missing 25 games means that dumb sumbitch is going to completly forget how to skate altogether, thus ending his career!!!

I was unaware there was a slot for 25 games on the wheel of justice.

Good, maybe this will start to send a message.
sends a message to Torres. not sure if it changes much for the rest of the BS going on.
it might, but this could very easily be a one-off (like Wisniewski to start the reg season).

is it without pay? That'll send a message, not only 25 games but also without pay.
yes, but the players don't technically get paid for the playoffs.
so he will lose about $20k per regular season game he misses next year (one more year left at $1.75m). in other words, the deeper Phoenix goes, the less of a financial penalty it will be to him.

Way to go Shanny. This ass clown deserved to have a hammer thrown at him for his goonery.

it's all about the end result. hossa gets up after the hit and he's looking at a 3 game suspension max

Torres released a statement and ended it with he's going to take the next few days on whether or not to appeal the suspension.

Maybe I'm being negative, but to me this is merely the Cooke ruling again. If it leads to Torres changing his ways, awesome...but the Cooke ruling did nothing to bring consistency. It took this hit to garner a substantial suspension (Wiz ruling aside).

No suspension is too much for Torres IMO. Despite the fact the NHL has been very inconsistent with its suspensions, I'm very glad to see this.

what the hell? really? 25 games?

I don’t like Raffi Torres. I think he tries to hurt people. And checks like he so often delivers are exactly the kind that need to be eliminated from hockey. But I can’t say the 25-game suspension handed down by the league for the hit on Marian Hossa makes a whole lot of sense to me. Aaron Asham got, what, four games (?), for cross-checking Brayden Schenn in the throat. He’s a repeat-offender, too, is he not? That cross check could have killed Schenn. And it was far less related to anything even remotely like a hockey play than Torres’s late hit on Hossa, which — as I believe Shane Doan pointed out — was probably a legal (or at least tolerated) check five years ago.

The Torres check was late, but it wasn’t that late. It was high, but it wasn’t that high. It was to the head but I’ve seen worse. It didn’t involve the boards and it wasn’t blind-side. Yes, he left his feet. Yes, he’s an ass. Yes, Hossa is a star. Yes, Hossa was injured.

I guess my problem is, I don’t see how players are supposed to look at that ruling and know what the rules are. It appears to be a matter of calibration: don’t hit that late, or that high. Right, got it.
