Posted that Friday on another board and Fresnick fan responses ran the gamut from so what it's just a little fraud no big deal to oh yeah that's last years news no biggie.

Not one that I have found thinks it's an issue. Says something about the fan base.

Really? Wow, isn't welfare fraud a federal offense? That's a pretty big issue if you ask me.

Most of those kids probably grew up on welfare. They thought it was entitled to them.

Ok the one thing that should be mentioned is it's only an improper benefit of the NCAA is going to get you type if ONLY student athletes were getting it.

That isn't the case here, students across the board not just athletes were getting it. While it isn't 'improper benefits' it is a violation of student conduct codes or at least one would hope it would be.

Agreed. This is a student conduct issue right now. Similar to if a group of athletes were caught robbing a store. It's bad, absolutely, but the NCAA is on the sideline until the athletes eligibility comes into question. If the athletes were specifically being steered or assisted, or if this social worker was an athletic booster or agent, there would be a much, much larger college football issue.

edit to add that if it weren't for all that gubmint cheese making them all constipoopied, they would have beaten the Mighty Huskerses.

This is not true. The general student population can receive a grant such as a Pell Grant and keep any proceeds that are left over after all tuition, books, fees, etc. are paid.

A student on an athletic scholarship cannot. It would be considered payment and they cannot receive payments when no services are rendered.

So in this case the students have a problem with school conduct codes which athletes also do but they are also NCAA violations for them.

They are under 2 different standards.

edit: Correction, I used a bad example. The NCAA considers the Pell to be exempt financial aid. I am pretty sure this would not be exempt though.
