Hell, I would strongly consider just playing another 5 minute 3 on 3 overtime period after the first if still tied. They are often extremely entertaining, way more so than any shootout in my opinion. Very rarely, if ever, would a game go beyond two of those overtimes. If so, just keep on playing. It's great for the sport.

The more 3 on 3 that people view, the more they get to see the speed, skills and playmaking abilities offensively at the very highest level. You don't always get to see all of that during your average game that ends in regulation. Yeah, the goalies are often hung out to dry a little bit, but the cream will rise to the top so to speak. Either way, these particular overtimes often lead to some ridiculous back and forth action that results in A-quality scoring chance after scoring chance before one team inevitably nets a very pretty goal.

Even though they are very nearly the same thing, a breakaway goal in OT is way more thrilling than a game-clinching shootout goal.

Depends on how the game is going. I usually start the 1st period with a nice indica, and some hard rock/ metal. If we are winning and coasting, I'll turn to some more gliding type flow music. If we're getting killed I'm usually to drunk to care.
