Meh... He may not even make the team...

Honestly, we need the depth at WR, but I don't think $5.5 million is the number I'd give him. He played 14 games (started 8) last year and we more than doubled his salary from last year for less than 30 yards per game. and a 43% completion percentage when being thrown to.
Too much for a player that only catches 49% of his targets...

He hasn't had double digit sacks since 2018. Is Schneider just mocking us at this point?

What? It's not all about sacks...

Lawrence was one of the best rush defenders in the NFL in 2023 (and basically all Dallas had) until his injury in 2024. I get this is a risk and he's 33... I can't grade this favorably at all (like C grade) but he vastly improves our run defense if he's healthy and provides SOME pass rush...

Seattle has cap space, you might as well spend the money at this point...

IF Lawrence is healthy, and IF Jones is healthy, and IF Williams STAYS healthy, Seattle will be very hard to run on next year.

Lot of ifs there. If it fails it fails.. I really don't know what to say. It's $18M guaranteed btw for Lawrence, so he's basically release worthy after this year assuming the $18M is signing bonus and spread over the 3 year contract term. So it's whatever. I'm highly concerned that our starting DL is going to consist of two 33 year old guys, a 31 year old... well and then fine, Murphy a rookie. But it's what it is.

We 100% absolutely had to address the DL. I wish it would've been Bosa, but okay... I'm hoping this means we can 100% spend draft ammo on additional EDGE/OL and maybe WR/DB with our 5 top100 picks.

Lawrence isn't horrible for the amount, but he's 33... (or going to be). We have Reed, Big Cat, and Lawrence, all getting way up there. $18M guaranteed for Lawrence so it's really a 2 year deal...

What still blows my mind is the complete ignore of signing OL. Absolutely baffling to me.

That said, I guess end of day in 2026 we're gonna have ridiculous cap room. Schneider is only signing short term commits.

We tried Will Fries but we went to Baltimore

3 years $42 million 18M guaranteed
About to be 33 and injured last year. JS likes them over 30 and coming off a major injury because that makes them affordable. Lets see what guarantee money he got. I'm guessing not not a lot. Being "disposal" is how JS likes them.

Edit: 18 million guaranteed,ouch.

I don't mind this.

We have alot of guys who can Rush the passer but he's a finisher. The guy who can get the sacks.

It also helps us create shit inside so guts like Daniel Jones don't gut us for 100+

I doubt Lawrence will see the field for more than 50 snaps a game. He was one of the best run defenders in the league off the EDGE in 2023... yes he's 2 years older, but I get it. Seattle wants (and needs) to shut down the run to get Macs system to operate. Lawrence can finish plays and did start off good last year until injury.

It's an overpay. I'm not thrilled about having 3+ 31+ year olds on the DL as effectively starters, but I get it... and with Knight/Jones being younger, you need something to stop the run. I would still FULLY expect Seattle to draft another DL in the first 3 rounds... again, build the trenches, and if Lawrence is fine coming in to mentor, that's okay. We've signed QB, OL, DL, and WR.. the WR I get, Valdes is cheap and a downfield threat, but the other signings have been critical positions. I just wish we could've better addressed the OL.. but maybe we're going balls deep in the draft (which is not great either, but what can ya do?).

Again Harold, I'd give it a C grade. It's not great by any means... but you got the cap space, bring in a good vet and shore up the DL.

I'm still HEAVILY annoyed that we haven't done anything to fix the OL...

Well... it wasn't a great OL free agency, at least with what we needed. Fries okay but there was two issues with that: 1) We didn't get to medically examine him - Vikings just said "FUCK IT, WE'RE ALL IN!" whereas we did get to examine DLaw.. 2) Fries wasn't a great ZBS blocker in 2023 when he had a full season, 3) Fries is like the only player that's gotten more than 3 years lol. Every team is signing to new teams like 1-3 year deals. Not saying that should deter us, but it's a little of a red flag.

I would've liked Zeitler, but it's a 1 year rental. There are still some available other guards (again not great at ZBS which Kubiak wants to do) and Seattle has prob. about $15-20M left after draft+PS+all the signings we've done. Sucks we're eating $70M dead, but it's a good time to do it because I don't consider Darnold anything other than a bridge.

So yah... the draft is not horrible in terms of IOL and right tackle, so I imagine that's where we'll address it. Again not great, but you can't just start wildly throwing money at IOL if it's not fitting what you want to do or they have unknown factors (Zeitler injury, Fries injury... Bechton really isn't great at ZBS, etc.).

I dunno.

Darnold = I mean it's cheaper than Geno, although I'd prefer Geno at this point. But cheaper... Originally an A grade, but now downgrading to a B without addressing the OL. Geno is better under pressure, but if it was going to cost us a 4 year $180M contract, no thanks.
Valdes = Zero issue with this. He worked in Kubiak's scheme and basically had the same 2nd half production as DK. B grade.
D Law = We've been complaining about the run D for years. This SHOULD get our run D above average. It's a high risk because he's 33, but D Law can be a good mentor for Hall/Mafe. C Grade.
Josh Jones = I mean whatever.. it's a depth signing. Not grading this.

I'm absolutely shocked Jones got $10M. He's OKAY in pass rush (mediocre though) but that guy can't stop a toddler from gaining 5 YPC on the ground.. Dre'Mont is sadly still costing us $14M cap this year (funny that even if D Law is a bust after signing and we cut him, it would be the same hit in 2026)... That said, D Law is SUCH a huge upgrade, and an actual locker room presence/leader. I was never high on the Jones signing,. It turned out be a colossal failure of a signing.

I know Mac called out someone last year during practice saying "The only reason you're here is you're too expensive to cut." Given what the dead cap was for players last year and the fact Jones was basically useless in mostly every game... I said then and I still stand by it now, that he was talking about Jones.

JS sure seems affraid to make any splash moves on the Oline or any where else really. He is still scraping the bottom of the barrel even though he had a ton of cap space. Who knows maybe they are saving it for someone special that might get released no clue. There really is NO REASON to ignore their chance to really help themselves out this coming season. I mean lets be honest if these are the type of guys they are going to pick up in FA then just dont. lol Just save the money. He still is scraping the bottom of the berral like always. Maybe 1 tiny baby step better but hardly enough to notice.

If they go out and get Kupp i'll feel a tiny bit better but still need someone that has a good chance to be a starter on the Oline at least!

I am not upset that we didn't rush out at the very beginning of free agency and throw a bunch of money at a guard. These type of moves rarely work out as good as you hope. The OL certainly is and has been an enduring issue seemingly for most of the last decade, but we do have several young players (a few of them starters) on the team now that have been drafted in the early rounds the last 3 years. We have a substantial number of draft picks to use in the first 3 rounds this year as well to add more talent to that part of the team. I might be more upset about not signing free agents if 2025 was the NFL's final season, but as far as I know that's not the case.

Geno being traded was a bit of a surprise, but I think the QB situation is in a better place now than it was a week ago. We got younger and cheaper, and we were rewarded with an additional 3rd round pick to do it. Even if Darnold is just a lateral move (which I don't necessarily agree with), that's fantastic maneuvering.

Trading DK was prudent. You got out of the way of that next contract freight train, and you got paid a 2nd rounder to do it. You drafted him with the very last pick of round 2, got 6 productive years from the player, then traded him for a better pick than what you used to draft him originally *and* got some cap relief in the deal. The overall amount of talent on the team might take a dip, but not at a position that truly impacts what you say your identity is going to be: running the ball and playing tough defense. WRs help with that about as little as any other position, and now we have more cap room and more draft capital to use on parts of the roster that do. Great move.

I'm totally fine with what's going on right now. We are setting ourselves up to better build a team that matches the style of play the coaches want, as opposed to years gone by when we made ill-fated trades for Jimmy Graham, Percy Harvin, and Jamal Adams. They are just getting started, and I think they're on the right track even if the fans don't approve of every decision .

Apparently Lawrence is really only ~$30M with $10M in incentives. That should keep him motivated, although the $18M guaranteed (unchanged) is really all that matters lol...

I don't know the specific incentive structure, but we of course want those to happen.. as said before if Lawrence goes back even somewhat close to his 2023 form we're instantly better and finally may be an above average run D (YPC).
