Great points from Bumpus regards to Kubiak's scheme, which relies on good blocking from the receiver position...

DK Metcalf ranked 47th out of 133 wide receivers in run block grading, followed by Jake Bobo at No. 63, Tyler Lockett at No. 78 and Jaxon Smith-Njigba at No. 111.
Obviously needs to be addressed if we want to make sure our running game is successful...

Was listening to a interview of a NFL players agent on the subject of Geno's contract. According to him Geno will ask for a contract of 50 million a year and settle for 45 million a year with a minimum of two years being fully guaranteed. Pointed to the contracts out there:

Looking at what Goff, Tua for example are making it hard to argue that Geno should settle for less then 45 million per year and two years guaranteed. Yikes, the $ are scary. What should the Seahawks do? I say let him play out the contract, but then the Seahawks are going to have to find cap space else where rather then get a bunch of cap space by redoing Geno's contract. Looks like the Seahawks are going have to take a shot at a QB this draft from this sad sack group of QBs and start him next year. Oh boy. Guess the Seahawks could just go ahead pay him 50 million the next two years add some void years and lower the first year hit with a signing bonus that spreads the hit out a bit.
Damn man JS really dropped the ball by skipping the QB position the last few years during the draft and now Geno has him by the balls.

If he wants $50m per, then swallow his cap hit and let him play out his contract we can make space elsewhere

Could start at 35mil and see what his agent comes back with. Last season he was basically a 1to1 TD/int ratio so can use that as leverage. I'd still draft a QB either 2nd or 3rd rounder. The fact mocks have the Rams taking Dart late 2nd is someone I hope Seattle scoops up or Dillion Gaberiel. Those I beleieve are the best 2 choices after round 1.

Unfortunately we basically have to draft a QB this year if geno plays hardball
Which is a shame because next year should be a much better class

Geno's cap hit this year is 44.5 million offering 35 would be a non starter I would think.

Is it a deep enough class though? Need a class with more then 3 options because be pretty hard to move into top 5 much less top 3, need a good option that can be had at pick 8 or 9 or 10 to have a shot (and it will be expensive). Who are the best options in 2026?

There are at least 3 guys next year with first round potential
Allar
Nussmeier
Klubnik
They'll need to build capital next year to get one of them. I don't think Schneider has time to trade today for the future though and will probably take a QB this year.

Well they where saying Ewers was going to be a first rounder also before the 2024 season but that didnt turn out. We wont know anything about the 2026 draft class till the 2025 college season is over. To be honest a few QB's went back to school for another season because of lower than expected season performance ( thats what i am saying ) and this does help with the 2026 draft depth but Hawks can't wait because of the 8ball the JS put them behind. Hell Draft a QB in the 2nd Sign a couple FA QB's and cut Geno if he doesnt want to play ball. Whats the worse that can happen? You suck and get one of the better QB's.

We all knew this new coaching group would need at least two years before things really count against them. JS needs to avoid the "void" years because he has hurt the team by using it way to often.

I never thought much of ewers watching him in 2023 and I'm not surprised at all that his stock cratered.
The three guys i mentioned are a solid foundation and there could be a few more that elevate themselves that nobody sees coming.
Also,
Carson beck is a wild card
Does arch manning declare after starting 1 year?

A contract that averages $50M/year is not the same as a contract that has a cap cost of $50M every year though. It's not even close.

Take a look at Hurts's contract, for example. He signed a 5 year, $255M extension in 2023 ($51M/year AAV). On the terms of that contract, he will never even get to the point where his cap cost is over $50M in any season because they will either release him or re-negotiate prior to the 2029 season. As it is, his highest cap cost is likely $47M in 2028, and that probably won't even be 15% of the salary cap. His cap hit in 2025 -- 3 seasons following the extension -- is only 7.6% of the total cap. His contract says he's averaging $50M/year, but in reality he's still playing for peanuts relative to what starting QBs cost.

Gotta look at cap costs, not average $ per year.

Geno will care about a lot more than just this year. For him, it's about the up front pay day a lot more than it is the 1st year cap number.

Looks like the guaranteed money is likely in the neighborhood of $100 million and could be higher. Yes he cares about more then this year money and is wanting to get the total guaranteed amount to be as large as can be negotiated. He's not coming cheap, maybe top 10 pay or top 15 IMO.

Yeah, for sure he wants that fat SB and as much guaranteed as possible, especially since 2025 will be his 35 y/o season (he turns 35 in Oct). I really don't sweat having "some" dead money at the end because of how the cap continually increases about 8-10% every year, and spreading out that SB is essentially an interest free loan as well as the cost of doing business to get players to sign. Just how the market works.

I'll be more or less fine with anything that keeps him in the ballpark of 13% of the salary cap per year. This past season, he was a tick over 10%. The bloated 44M scheduled on the current deal is still barely 15%, but in no way do I think he plays for that number. Both sides know that isn't happening.

TB had seasons when he was paid something like 25 mill to help the Pats did he not?

To build a championship team you need players who are commetted to the "TEAM" if you get my meaning. Yes they all want to be paid but how much money do they really need as greed is starting to fill up teams cap spaces on 1 to 2 players. you just cant have 20%+ of your cap on 1 or 2 players it just sets you up for failure as you lose talent everyplace else.

The NFL needs to start play hardball with these players contracts because they are growing FASTER than the Salary cap is.
