Was just listening to a guy that said he talked to 10 GM's to get some of their thoughts on the draft. Charles Robinson if anybody would like to read what all he had to say. He pretty much said if you want a starting Tackle you better take them in the 1st because there is going to be a big run on them. Teams are desperate for even average tackle play if at all possible and it is one position they will reach for knowing they cannot wait until the next round.

As for what the Pats will do...So much depends on who is there. I do think if Carter is still on the board I would be running the card to the NFL and saying thank you so much for this gift. I get that tackle is this glaring issue, but sometimes you just can't let a blue chip talent like Carter pass you by. If the Pats were to get say a 1st this year and a 1st next year I guess I could understand it more to trade back, but again it would have to be a major overpay for me to pass on a talent like that.

I think though come Thursday Campbell will be a Patriot.

What I would personally do let's say Carter is gone then I would probably lean towards Campbell, but McMillan would be hard for me to pass up. I love him as a WR prospect though. I'm a lot higher on him than most.
Yep. But I am not looking for a WR in round one. Boutte came on last year, they signed Diggs and Millan. A lot of receiving corps issues last year were from decisions made by the organization. A WR can wait

I would agree. It is why in the end I would lean towards Campbell as it is the bigger need and I do have both players pretty similarly graded. I just really like McMillan a lot and for a QB like Maye I think they would be a really good fit together.

Oh it could damn sure work. I honestly feel The Pats are in a damned if we do, damned if don't situation. If Jeanty is there and we pass and take Campbell someone will grade the pick a C only because they passed on Jeanty whom that "EXPERT" liked. Same can be said with Carter, Hunter, Warren to a lesser degree.

I like to build from the trenches out. The Pats did really well in FA shoring up the D, now it's time to address the O. Some poster here made a good point about McDaniels style of play calling a T could wait. I don't ever feel you can wait on a T when you don't have one.

My thought is this...and I know I am not an expert or even close, so my opinion is just that of a fan...
Is this a rebuild? A multi year rebuild?
Is a LT going to get us deep into the playoffs? Same for RB? WR? Are we one position away from being a power house? CB QB, S, TE, DT...
I think not. We have a few positions that need to improve and we are not getting there in 2025.

So with that in mind, a player like Jeanty does not come around every year. Sure this is a deep RB class, which means if he is the best of a really good class, he is probably someone special. Is there the likely hood that there is someone just as good, someone special at RB next year? Less than likely, but maybe.

Will Campbell is a really good LT in a thin class. He is not anyone special, he's just really good. What is the likely hood there will be someone just as good, someone just really good available next year? Highly likely.

What's the likelihood that a second round pick on a RB this year would get you a RB almost as good as Jeanty? Not very likely. You'll probably get an adequate RB, a ball carrier, but mot a game changer.
Now, what's the chance that you could get an LT that is almost as good as Campbell in the second round? Very highly likely.

So grab Jeanty at #4, or Carter if available. Or trade back a bit and grab Warren.

And I am not on the Jeany bandwagon. Boise State plays a nobody schedule for the most part, 90% of their game are against subpar teams. So, when you shine against shit are you just a shiny bobble or the real deal? Campbell played against some the best defensive players in college football and was successful he is to me a more proven commodity at a greater position of need. And I want to reiterate what I have said before, it's my opinion, I could be very wrong about Jeanty I just think there is more to Campbells background to suggest he may be the better option.

The RB is less important than ever before in today's NFL if Warren and Jeanty were the options I would take Warren before Jeanty.

As for Carter at 4 yeah I get it but to be honest if both Carter and Jeanty are there at 4 and the Pats phones are blowing up, I'm answering the phone because this is a multi year rebuild.

Again, I'm no expert. But there are more experts on the Jeanty hype train than there are on the Campbell wagon.

Barkley begs to differ, as does James White. I'm good with Warren.

And I want a ransom.

That's my point.

I too want a ransom but a lot of that will be based upon which teams call

IF, IF, IF, IF Carter does fall to #4, I would not trade any lower than #10.

Following the Patriots are: JAX, LV, NYJ, CAR, NO, CHI.

None of them appear to be looking for an OT. I don't think JAX would trade up a spot for Carter. The Jets and Cats would go for Carter. Saints are looking for a QB. The Bears would be happy to move up. So, #5, #6 or #10 and Campbell or Banks will still be around. Anything further and trying to get anything out of SF, DAL or MIA might be a dogfight.

This defense might win a few games for the team. Get a LT, a good third RB and a big young TE and one never knows. Round two? After being a WC? An upset or two on both sides of the fence and suddenly it's Super Bowl.

I would go to as low as 12 b/c I could get more capital and likely score Banks if Campbell is gone

I would disagree. I think everyone of those teams is looking for OT help except Carolina. Jags can't feel good about either of their tackles. Vegas needs a RT bad. Jets need another tackle as well. NO has not been impressed with their RT situation. Chicago really needs a LT to round out all their OL additions. Most of them it isn't the top need, but they could be like a lot of teams thinking I have to get my Tackle now and then can focus on other positions on day 2 that are maybe bigger needs.

So all the more reason for the Pats to grab their OT at 4?

I would agree. If the Pats have someone graded even just a little bit higher than another then I wouldn't mess around at that position. Get your guy and think you have your blindside protector for the next 10+ years. I think if you get cute and push back to say 10 then decent chance either one of the teams ahead of you snipes your guy or someone behind sees an opportunity to trade up for less than what they thought it would cost and get the guy you want.

Now if you have a few guys you really like then it can be worth it.

Yep. Pretty sure they graded Campbell out the highest, it makes sense and its the general consensus. I also think they would be interested in Banks and SImmons, I too like them and I like the kid a Minn cannot recall the name as I type

Derrick Henry. It all depends on the players and the game plan.
And Barkley played against quality teams in college.
Different schools does not mean quality schools. LaDainian Tomlinson played for a small school.
As did Marshall Faulk. And Walter Payton. And Jerry Rice.

I would add that Jeanty did play against some good teams. Yes his conference games were not great, but the talent around him on his own team wasn't great either and he still produced with getting hit in the backfield a great deal. He also had a game against Oregon where he rushed for over 190 yards, had 3 TD's, and averaged 7.7 yards per carry. He then had another 2 games against 20th ranked UNLV where he rushed for 128 yards in the 1st game and over 200 yards in the 2nd.

PSU game is the one dark mark on his season but man he was getting smashed almost every carry in the backfield in that game.

Fact.............................The #4 draft pick will cost whatever team has it .................

Year 1 = $8M
Year 2 = $10M
Year 3 = $12M
Year 4 = $14M

Derrick Henry signed a 3 year $24M contract before the start of 2024. Only two RB make over $14M a year. Saquan Barkley and Christian McCaffrey.

Only five positions will give value for being drafted at #4. QB, WR, LT, Edge and CB

I didn't know this about the mandatory price tags on the first round draft positions. It's being discussed in detail on Felger & Mazz on NBC Sports Boston.

Basically, they are anti-Jeanty because of the cost for a rookie RB vs the Derrick Henry contract and other RB contracts. Gotta side with them when you think about that contract. Give me a LT or WR (Golden??)
