That is a nice draft haul for the Pats. Simmons it wouldn't shock me to see him go top-10 but it also wouldn't surprise me to see him make it to the top of the 2nd. Hate this draft for the Broncos after the 1st round. Would have loved your 3rd round pick at RB for our 2nd round pick.
I think team doctors will have a lot to do with where Simmons may land. He needs team doctors to convince GMs and coaches he is cleared to practice and play

Something to consider.....

Abdul Carter may be a beast. Abdul Carter has had a couple beast injuries and still recovering from both.

1. Severe foot stress fracture
2. Shoulder injury during last playoff game.

1. Tenn - Cam Ward
2. CLE - Travis Hunter
3. NYG - Shedeur Sanders
4. NEP - Abdul Carter or TRADE????

From what I have gathered at the Combine/Pro Day the injury isn't all that concerning. He of course got checked out. The bigger issue is whether teams believe he is coachable or not. I think if a team believes he is then decent chance he is a top-15 pick. If not then could fall to the end of round 1 or beginning of round 2.

Might want to correct your post here. He did not have a stress fracture. It was diagnosed as a stress reaction. Nothing is broken but worry that if he pushes it without some rest it could eventually fracture. Doctors did not even recommend surgery but just taking some time off and getting some weight off of it for a while. So honestly pretty minor injury. At most they would tell him to take 8 weeks of rest. It was diagnosed back in February so we are talking he could be back to full strength right now or at worst by the end of April.

As for the shoulder injury he could have played through it if they kept winning so it was painful but manageable. At his Pro Day he said the shoulder was back to 100% and the only reason he wasn't working out for teams is because he did not have time to train for his Pro Day because of the rehab.

Campbell and Simmons are the only 1st round LT's.
I'm not saying someone won't pick a RT though - but I'm hoping it's not the Pats......

No...Now I'm with Sports Illustrated. They have a branch of SI that covers the Broncos so working for them right now and doing a weekly show on Tuesdays. We will be live for the entire draft. Quite the experience to be live for around 19 hours over a 3 day period.

Membou will go in the 1st but you are right by a team that needs a RT. Connerly is the other one I could see late in the 1st. A lot of back end of the draft teams needing tackle knowing he won't make it back to them in the 2nd round and unfortunately OT is one of those positions if you don't get them in the 1st round especially for LT then you are probably not getting a quality tackle. There are not a ton of hidden gems found at the position. It happens, but QB, Edge, and Tackle are positions you better be taking in the 1st round.

If you have a seperation similar to Liz Franc without the fracture, it is still scary for a big man. I don't trust players having stress reactions in the draft.
Shoulders are tricky and have ruined many a career. If you have a player with a shoulder injury, you take care of it.
If you have a draft prospect with a shoulder injury, I'd have a hell of a lot of questions and an MRI and a few orthopedic experts take a look. I had a shoulder injury as a pro and I won races with it. It eventually failed. Surgery was required and I cannot throw a ball to this day.

The fact that he didn't even know he had it until the Combine though is why I don't think the stress reaction in his foot is a big deal. A team doctor had to find it and he then had multiple doctors tell him just give it rest and he should be fine.

Shoulder injury I guess my main thing is if I see a pattern in a player then I worry. If they have multiple games missed because of similar injuries in the same area then I think that is something that will linger. Probably of the two I worry more about the shoulder injury than the foot injury though. He didn't even talk about the foot injury being a part of why he didn't work out at his Pro Day. It was all about his rehab of the shoulder. So makes me think that was the more serious injury of the two.

It is definitely going to be a part of the evaluation process with him. And with the power he generates through his foot when cutting and with his shoulder when rushing or holding his spot yes those are definitely factors. He is such a great prospect outside of this though I would have a tough time passing on him even in the top-5. To me he is the best player in this entire draft.

"In a deep tackle class, Conerly separates himself by being both floor and ceiling. While other prospects are either polished with limited upside or raw with elite traits,"

(that is not necessarily a compliment!)

Very true. I just know Tackle is a position that teams panic reach for many times because they know how quickly it dries up. So if a guy like Connerly with some decent tape is around in the late 1st I could see teams like Seattle needing multiple OL players, Houston, Baltimore, and KC all looking Connerly's direction.

Made me think of Bill Walton.....

"Walton would have over 30 surgeries over the course of his professional career. To complicate the matter, stress fractures were not really understood in the 1970s. Many of the procedures he went through were experimental. A ton of orthopedic knowledge about the foot and ankle was gained from working on Walton’s feet.
Much of the medical knowledge used to treat players today comes from the case studies of Walton’s feet back in the 1970s and 1980s."

Interesting. I'm definitely glad that medical research keeps advancing. What used to be career enders not might see a player back to 100% by the next season. It would not shock me to see Carter have to have some kind of foot surgery at some point in his career. Nice thing is we have seen plenty of players go on to have great careers after a stress fracture surgery.

It is nationwide. We go live on Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Instagram, and I think Twitch. So yeah come check us out. Our group is primarily focused towards the Broncos, but when it comes to the draft we cover every team and our thoughts on picks and fits. We have a guy on staff that pretty much his entire job is just watching prospects for the draft and writing profiles for about 300 players each year. Our boss even sends at least one of us to the Senior Bowl/Shrine Bowl, Combine, and then we have had in the past someone on the ground at the draft covering things.

If you want to watch just look up Mile High Huddle on any of those sites and you will find us. IF you want to watch my specific show it is called "Building the Broncos". Like I said every Tuesday we are live at 7 pm Central time. We usually interact quite a bit with the chat so just write in saying "Hey Carl this is BigKen and I'll give you a shout out on the show".

Awesome! We found out the hard way that we cannot have the actual draft showing in the background. Got hit a few years back with a copyright infringement and they shut down our stream for a day. So just giving you a heads up it is a few of us all hanging out talking about each pick.

Did the same thing back in 1995. Had live broadcast from Gillette and got warned by CBS that they'd shut us down. Then they realized we were a radio broadcast from Milford, NH and apologized. There was a WBZ (NBC) television camera pointed at us (CBS had a live TV with the draft behind us)without a cameraman behind it. AND it wasn't plugged in anywhere.

Great year for me Had a Mock Draft that we were constantly discussing and my Patriots pick was Ty Law. Believe it or not, Bill Parcells heard about us and actually stopped by to ask me how in the hell I ever picked him and took a copy of my mock. I hit 9 picks dead nuts. Never close to that again.
My biggest radio event ever. I think we had about 1500 people listening to us.:facepalm3:

Nice! Day 1 of last year's draft I think at our peak we had 1500 on Youtube and I'm not sure how many watching on the other streams. Day 2 we dropped down to about 500 on Youtube and by day 3 it was down to a couple hundred live. I don't blame people that is a long day full of names most people have never heard before. Only the true diehard nuts people pay attention at that point.

I think most I've called in a single draft was about 3 picks. Got really lucky on that one.
