Free agency will determine what happens in the draft. Maybe more in 2025 than any year in the previous 10.

Much of the spending will be determined by the increase in the Cap. The 2024 cap was $225M. Six owners have openly supported a stationary cap of $300M this year through 2029. Several others have proposed a fixed 10% every year through 2029. The old guard wants to maintain an annual cap increase based on financial growth. Underlying consensus is that the league is trying to keep everything as is and that the raise in the 2025 cap will be anywhere between 12% and 20%. Hence, the belief is that it will be 15% or $33M raising the cap to $258.75M.

If that's anywhere near true, the Patriots will be sitting on $167M to spend in free agency. Every team will be required to spend around $232.5M.

May sound ridiculous, but given that amount of money, the Patriots cannot wait until day three to start spending money. They have got to start spending immediately after the Super Bowl trophy is handed to the winners.
We were talking about the Browns QB situation. We are all well aware of the Pats FA monies, not sure where your day three comment ties in?

Just a reminder of the BB days when we were frustrated because he never jumped into the pool on the first day and always seemed to be looking at the leftovers late on day two or day three of the free agent scramble.

We are in a time where the Sunday commitments start hitting the wires about 5:00 PM and I for one bitched about the fact that no team could start talking to a player at 4:00 PM have a commitment by 5:00 PM with 31 other teams jumping into the pool at the same time. Now we all know that teams start calling agents and agents start calling teams about a half hour after the Super Bowl and work from there.

I'm just not 100% confident in Elliot Wolfe, but I am confident that Vrabel will not be sitting on his hands. This team cannot afford to allow history to repeat itself.

Looks like the entire staff is in Alabama traveling between the American and National teams practices.

Josh had a very interesting comment........."A player can make his career here in a practice session and destroy the career of the guys he's practicing against. These kids know what's at stake. Some grab the gold ring."

Alert......................

Don't be surprised if the Patriots pass on Will Campbell. Word is that he does have short arms and is not quite as mobile as most tams would like on the left side.

Two or three other names keep popping up.

  • Aireontae Ersery
Minnesota OT who is 6'6" and weighs 325 lbs

    Jonah Savaiinaea
Arizona OT who is 6'5" and weighs 320 lbs

  • Will Johnson
Michigan CB who is 6'2" and weighs 206 lbs

I'll be surprised. If they pass on him and Banks. But again a lot depends on FA moves

Interesting take on the top twenty college players available in this year's draft. Again, the combine is coming and most likely, there will be changes in this presumption.

I don't see us taking Isaiah Winn - I mean Will Campbell.
I would not be surprised to see us trade out of the 1st round entirely - to get more help on the line.....
As has been said, maybe a QB needy team will give us their 1st and a lot more?????

Winn really? I think you are off on that.

I have run mocks where we trade out completely and had decent draft, mostly aimed at additional picks next year. To many selections in one year becomes a cap nightmare down the road. It has to be selections over multiple years.

According to Tom Curran, the Patriots may be making more trades than ever this year. Because of the new salary cap, it's suspected that teams will be signing more of theirown players and the fruit on the free agent tree won't be as plentiful. Players in their final year of a contract will become the target and the Patriots will give up a pick oir two to get solid players and rewrite their contracts for a longer period with a much better payout. Of course, that will be agreed to before the trade is consummated.

That will affect the draft significantly and all of the mocks and expert prognostications are now looking like "i guess. You guess" more than ever.

Great read!

"If you're a good football player you're a good football player" great line and so true. The combine is what it is a meat processing plant, let me see what you did on film and the level of competition you played, sure then I will see if you can 3 more reps at 325 because that's what's important (Pfft)

Sleeper at OT
Ozzy-Trapilo-OL-BostonCollege
Ranked 15th at tackle, he can be had later than you'd expect.....
  • Mammoth frame with plus length, creating a wide blocking radius and giving edge rushers fits
  • Stone wall in pass pro, showcasing advanced kick-slide technique and mirror ability
  • Heavy hands paired with vise-grip strength, locking onto defenders and controlling the point of attack
  • Positional versatility, having lined up at both tackle spots in college
  • Impressive anchor, able to absorb bull rushes and maintain pocket integrity
  • Processes stunts and blitzes quickly, rarely caught out of position
  • Nasty finisher who looks to bury defenders and play through the whistle
  • Iron man durability, consistently logging full game snap counts

Type of player you can take a hard look at in RD5 maybe 4 if we move around a lot

BC has a history of having great OLs. BB had a history of completely ignoring them.
Hopefully, with Bill O'Brien being the HC at BC, Vrabel won't be so cavalier.
