I've been reading about a comment JS said last week "guards are over paid and over drafted" that has me thinking he may wait to fill the guard position in the draft. His history shows he usually drafts guards in round 3-4 or signs/trade someone for cheap to play guard. Makes the first pick more of a mystery, even if they trade down.

He could also be intentionally lying.

Or a explanation/excuse why no guard was signed this off season. However his history does sort of backs the thought that he doesn't consider guards all that valuable.

Historically guards are not usually a big focus in the 1st round. 15 years ago, it almost unheard of to see a guard taken in the first half of the 1st round. I remember everyone talking about the Hawks drafting Hutch in the middle of the 1st as being a risk.

Yes this is correct, so could be JS waits until middle to late rounds to address guard position even though it's a obvious need. Lots of candidates in the later rounds from what I hear. Good draft class for those in need of OL.

Yeah. I think he is more likely to address in the later rounds. I do think he might have some tough decisions if Fautanu is available at 16 though.

I agree, but a player like Fautanu would also provide the incentive to get someone to move up and trade with the Seahawks, if that is something JS is considering (moving down for additional picks). I sort of chuckle listening to ytube when someone would state if a blue chip like Fautanu or Z or Y is available take him if not trade down. Teams need a reason to want to move up.

Well this would be my dream draft (default settings - didn't force any trades). Just put Powers-Johnson at LG and you get Cooper for a backup. Trotter Jr. should be able to step in and Jackson gives great depth for Hankins... Nubin is literally the ideal safety for Mac's defense...

I went to profootballnetwork and drafted all 32 teams with a stipulation that I didn't know needs for everyone on the top of my head. So, I set some rules.

  1. If a team had a pfn top 5 need within the top 9 prospects, they picked the BPA of the need unless they had already filled that position. i.e. NE needed QB and WR at #3, because Harrison is ranked #3 and Jayden Daniels was #4, NE drafted Harrison (Daniels went 10th to the Jets, NE took Bo Nix in round 2).
  2. If a need is not present in the top 9, BPA is selected.
  3. Positions selected were limited to 2 for positions of need and 1 for positions not a need
  4. QBs were limited to 1 and to be selected as BPA must be at least 1 round lower than projected, (i.e. Caleb Williams wouldn't've been BPA until pick 33 since he was ranked #1)

Seahawks results:
16. Johnny Newton, DT Illinois
81. Christian Mahogany, G Boston College
102. James Williams, LB Miami (FL)
118. Khyree Jackson, CB Oregon
179. Jarrian Jones, CB Florida State
192. George Holani, RB Boise State
235. Prince Pines, G Tulane

The draft won't play out this way, as this isn't how anyone drafts, I just thought it would be interesting to let the draft board be a media outlet's prospect list.

Fine with those first 3 picks.. I have zero clue why we need two CBs and a RB with the next picks... we're at the point where we need to cut DBs and RBs from this team to save money.

Just how the list fell. PFN has CB as our 5th top need. I don't agree with that, but that's what they have.

Great mock but Jackson powers will be long gone. Don't think he gets past Philly.

Oh 100%. I just figured I'd do a mock this morning (no manipulating of settings or the easily abused trades in PFF) and got that, and wanted to pipe dream lol.

Comp picks were announced today and both the Rams and 49ers got awarded 5 comp picks that nearly as many extra picks as the Seahawks have in total. I noticed that JS was angling for comp picks next season during free agency. 49ers really got a sweet haul with a extra 3rd, extra 4th, extra 5th and two extra 6th round picks makes me feel like rioting damn it.

should you really get comp picks if you played in the superbowl?

I get why you are saying this but the answer still is 100% yes.

If you draft well or sign good players and lose them you should 100% get compensation. In a way it shows how well your FO is doing. Hawks could be inline for 3 or 4 next year, it all depends on what happens from here on out with FA signings.

According to Over the Cap's projections, Seattle is currently on track to get four comp picks in next year's draft:
  • Fourth-round pick for LG Damien Lewis to Panthers.
  • Fifth-round pick for LB Jordyn Brooks to Dolphins.
  • Sixth-round pick for LB Bobby Wagner to Commanders.
  • Sixth-round pick for TE Colby Parkinson to Rams.

Thankfully we aren't in the Browns position.
