Don't be a jabroni.
Buster can ask for whatever he wants, I wouldn't sign him past 2 years/$7 million tops. Tender him his MQO and let the negotiations begin, kind of like how The Legend was paid (2 years roughly $3.1 million AAV I believe?).
He hasn't earned it or showed it although he took a big step forward last season finally. He's still behind for the 2020 draft class, and his disappearance the last quarter of the season and essentially non impact against the Oilers would make me hesitate to give him more, maybe the next contract.
Lafreniere finally made an impact during the POs, he obviously went one before Buster but he scored clutch and timely goals, was a physical presence and finally showed why he went 1OA. Buster didn't do anything from February on. He hurt his own value in a contract year with the no show so I can't see a huge deal coming for him.
That'll leave the Kings with more space for the other moves you're talking about.
