It would also be nice if he didn't miss the QB completely when he does blitz......how he missed Purdy was embarrassing......
Minkah being an all-pro, premier talent at centerfielder doesn't mean he's the next Troy Polamalu... I'm tired of this team thinking they can force this into existence.

There was only one Troy......Minkah just needs to get better reads, seems to be late to the party quite often....he isn't the ball hawk that Ed Reed was either sitting in CF......

Agreed. Minkah is great at FS. He elevates the entire D and is a good field general to the secondary. He just isn't that same sort of impactful player when you move him around.

I just don't get how Mike Tomlin can be okay with this. Matt Canada is an absolute abortion as OC. I was hoping that the latent would rise above it or maybe the reins would be taken off and we would see something that caused Andy Reid to be such a fan. But it's not gonna happen. And honestly, I'm not sure Kenny recovers after two years of this shit.

I don't even blame Canada. I blame Tomlin. I don't know how much his fingers are in this offense but regardless he keeps being terrible at hiring staff and even worse at admitting a mistake and pivoting. And what if he does finally let Canada go? Does anyone really think he has the cognitive capacity to hire someone else? The next time I hear one of these talking heads say that we don't know what we have in Tomlin and how he would be scooped up in a second I'm coming unglued.

FUCK am I pissed. This team is going to be wasted. How can Tomlin be that fucking incompetent?

So much truth here! I avoid the argument about being lukewarm on Tomlin like the plague because of that overrated luster that Tomlin has on him. Its a losing argument no matter how much proof you provide. Tomlin is a good coach. Just not the X's & O's guy capable of really elevating this team during games. Aptly referred to as the Rah-Rah coach, who can talk a smooth game and right the ship 9 times out of 10 to squeeze the most out of lameduck rosters... But ultimately he falls short in the categories that separate championship football teams from the rest. I always refer to 2017ish when he had a top 3 OL, #1 WR in the NFL, #1 RB in the NFL, and a HOF QB tossing for 5 TDs in back to back weeks... If he can't win a playoff game with that much octane, then it makes it difficult to believe he can with a younger yet immensely talented group. This defense is lightyears ahead of those years, so hopefully the results are better.

We've suspected for over a decade now that Tomlin wants to run things his way on both sides of the ball. At many points it was confirmed that Tomlin was calling plays on defense when Butler was in town. Butler said it so himself afterwards. Don't know if I recall him calling in offensive plays, but wouldn't surprise me if he's in Canada's ear all game long.

Tomlin wants yes-guys coordinating his team. Rarely does he bring in people with their own ideas. Hence why his coaching tree is NON-EXISTENT. Matt Canada was probably the first that was touted as bringing their own unique style... But look where that got them. And even then we're seeing a lot of tiresome similarities between Canada & Sandy Sphincter's offense that we loathed. Both emphasized the 10-yds & IN window. Randy might have been slightly more impressive if he had a functioning OL to protect Ben. But even then it was mainly Ben running the show & making him look good.

Ben was able to, and frequently would change plays or just go hurry-up for a drive and pull magic out of his ass.

Kenny is far from that player at this point, so we suffer.

Can you imagine how good Tomlin could be if he would surround himself with talented staff and then get the fuck out of their way? If he could stick to what he does best (misuse words as a motivation tactic) and oversee at a macro level? Ugh. I hope his next shit is square.

I hate how blind this staff is... I mean, does the film really not tell them what works & what doesn't? The mental gymnastics this staff does to support their decisions is absurd.

Hear me out.... Maybe.... Maybe they should stop investing draft capital into college specialists

I'm over the Harvin experiment. Dude is an absolute liability.

Just because he CAN line up anywhere as a DB, doesn't mean he should.

Play him like Baltimore played Reed, and we're golden.

Kenny Pickett isn't him. Just saying. Our defense saved our offense, yet again. Give the ball to Trubisky or something. Fuck it, give it to Rudolph. Maybe we tank this year for a high draft pick or something.

Sorry not sorry, but I'm venting. Don't wanna read it, hit that ignore button.

What is this team doing? Kenny only completed 15 passes, so this will be quick. Here's his breakdown of how many yards each completed pass was:

1st completion - 7
2nd - 15
3rd - Fumbled by Gunnar
4th - 5
5th - 30
6th - No Gain
7th - 11
8th - 71 (TD)
9th - 2
10th - 10
11th - 25
12th - 8
13th - 23
14th - 5
15th - 10

His last completed pass was a 10 yard pass Jaylen with 8:21 left in the 3rd quarter. Here are the offensive stats from 8:21 of the 3rd til the end of the game:

Kenny Pickett - 0-2, 1 Sack (-11 yards), 1 rush, -3 yards
45 total rushing yards

While we are losing, our offense can't get shit done on the field, so our defense needs to bail them out. Thank fucking God we have a defense that is actually knowledgable on how to play fucking football. When are we going to get this offense back? We've seen what happens when we rely on our defense to win games for us, we finish 9-8 and miss the playoffs. At this point, can we even place the blame on OC? Todd Haley, Fichtner and now Matt Canada....it's beyond coaching at this point, it's the culture that needs to change and I feel like some of us have been saying this for years now. At some point, and I'm not saying that we are at that point, but at some point, we are going to need to point the finger towards a bit higher up on the ladder.

I'm not ready by a long shot to blame Kenny yet.

I blame Canada first. His scheme is bad, his playcalling is bad. It hurts watching anything on offense. You don't put the game on the legs of the QB by design to ice a game. You don't scheme your OL to take steps backwards when you are in a goal-line run situation. That's just bad.
I had problems with Haley, but he put up yardage and he scored points. I don't see how anyone can succeed under this slow-developing horizontal offense.

And yes that comes down to Tomlin. He picked these people, he kept these people. I've been sour on Mike for years now. It's time for him to be told he's retiring like Rooney did to Arians. Tomlin is simply "fat and sassy and spoiled". There is no fire in him to do anything but average. Sure, he will get wins, he'll get back to 9 again. Horray. We're the middlingest damn franchise in the league for the last decade.

I'm firmly on the "Fire Mike Tomlin" ship right now. This is getting ridiculous. 3 different OCs where our offense has sucked dirty dick every year and our defense has had to bail us out. I know it's only 2 games in, but this has been the status quo for at least the last 2 years, and it now looks like it will be the same this year too.

Harvin finally has a good game and is now hurt and might miss the next game.

So a blast from the past:
