They can all play with the ball.

They can all catch and shoot.

Offensive fit won’t be a problem.

It will be defense and health that are most likely to hold this group back.

They need a guy like Lundy to fall to 52

They need to get cheap vets who are willing to play for a contender at a discount.

Highly unlikely a late 2nd round rookie going to be a key contributor in year 1

Detroit isn't going anywhere though. Those shooters ain't helping them right now. You're giving up two role players for a guy that has all star potential, which is higher than any of their current players not named Cunningham/Ivey. Unless you want more draft picks (which you could get in other deals for those guys, especially Bog), you're not likely get a better player

But as stated...they already have 3 centers

More importantly

They have Monty. Who hates Ayton

And they need to use their 5m tpe, although that’s probably easier to use in February

Trade 52 for a future 2 that you can trade then

Phoenix has the 52nd pick in the draft as well as a 5 mill trade exception.

They are probably going to try and bring back the guys they had this past season for the bench. But, Craig can get more than the vet minimum, he made 5.2 mill this past season and could get more than that if he wanted to. And Warren and Okogie should be able to get more than the 1.8 mill they made this past season.

That trade exception will go away as part of the new CBA. The Suns will undoubtedly be above that second tax apron.

At what point does Ayton's "star potential" get dropped for current reality, and are we already there? We're at year 7 now and he basically is what he is, an 18/10 on 60% shooting center that isn't a strong defender or reliable 3 pt threat and already making $32M+ for the next 3 years. At this point, the only real upside is the hope that a new system/coaching staff can build more to his strengths?

These actions to me open the door to the possibility that Monty wanted to move on when ownership changed.
Monty will do better in Detroit doing what he does best....teaching youngsters.....like he did in NO.

With the talent they have and continue to get and his coaching Detroit could be a really good team in 2-3 years.

Vogel keeping him.....he had a legit big man everywhere he has been.

Yeah, I forgot Monty was there now.

The Pacers signed Ayton to that offer sheet and could trade for him now, but with Turner re-signed they have pivoted to looking for a PF to pair with Turner instead of a center.

If the Suns keep him, that basically puts them with re-signing last year's depth players (most of which were already vet min guys) or new vet min guys to fill out the roster. With Durant, Beal, Booker, Ayton, Payne, Goodwin, Wainright and Todd, they are already at $175M plus a $4.4M cap hold for roster spots 9-12. Their options are bring back their own free agents and go even further over the tax apron or sign vet min contracts. By exceeding that second tax apron at $179.5M, they lose any exceptions (TPMLE, Bi-Annual).
