Or…he had no intentions of staying in Portland all along and instead used them to get his super max instead of taking less on the open market in true FA. And now he’s holding the franchise hostage by demanding a trade to one team and one team only assuring that they get a disgusting return on their biggest asset who has forced himself out. Man, all this bull shit because a guy played basketball for a franchise that could give him the most money. People are acting like dude is fucking Mother Teresa.

That is just not at all consistent with Dame’s behavior for the duration of his career.

Let me know when I’m wrong I guess. FYI I’m not saying in my opinion that they should or shouldn’t, though I certainly have an opinion there. I’m saying knowing this franchise just a bit that there is no way they will do it. Literally a zero percent chance.
Why would they?

Thunder are a young team still finding their way.

He needs to be somewhere like Golden State or Phoenix.

Places where he has zero pressure to score.

Some people think anyone can be fixed with just the right amount of bullshit here or there. When someone shows you they are who you think they are you should believe them.

I think what he is doing is awful.

But, it’s his only card to play here.

He isn’t a free agent for the next half decade.

I think he actually would have stayed.

He clearly gave them several chances to improve.

But, it’s clear they can’t with his contract eating up 50 mil a year and growing.

Again: Not onboard with his tactics.

But, he has been a real pro for over a decade.

Yep. Someone needs to explain to him that he's depressing his own market. If he just expanded it to...trade me to a contender...the offers would immediately improve significantly.

Nothing wrong with demanding a trade, Nothing wrong with trying to dictate where you go.

A lot wrong with expecting the team to take someones table scraps to get it done.
Amen.

I kind of fall in the middle here on the Dame thing. I don’t think this is something he planned or anything like that. I also don’t think the team really lied to him, they really had no reason to expect they would get the 3 pick. I do think the day will come when there is a tax of some sort on a contract where the player signs a supermax then asks for a trade.

You mean after he took the bag from Portland with no intention of ever playing out the life of the deal. But still I disagree. “I want to be traded to a contender.” That nets Portland a fair deal. This nonsense assures they’re getting fleeced.
He isn’t a free agent for the next half decade.
He just resigned for the super max like a year ago right? He has his chance. He chose the big bag. That’s his right but choices are like that. You get something but you give up another opportunity
I think he actually would have stayed.
I don’t think that for a minute. I think he talked a good game.
He clearly gave them several chances to improve.
That’s fair. But how were they going to do that? What deal was out there to be had or what was out there that they could have gotten done?

What have ya done for me lately. He’s going to set their franchise back with this selfish move.

Now that is the kind of investment I could see Presti doing
It’s too late now but the Simmons deal is something the Thunder would have done two years ago. You take a depressed asset and you take on draft capital to take a bad deal off of someone’s hands. It also helps the Thunder get to the cap floor when they’re trying not to commit to future salary cap commitments. They then repair the asset and trade it for more draft capital. This is essentially what they did with Al Horford. But that was a couple years ago. The Thunder are at a different spot in their process now and are less likely to take on the damaged asset.

Like I said I’m kind of in the middle on this but I think you are glossing over the fact that once Portland took Scoot that ended Lillards time there. It’s in neither of their interests to continue the relationship.

They tried to trade that pick. They didn’t get anything enticing coming back. It would be a different story if we had confirmation that a prime PF or C was there to be had to put around Dame for that pick. It wasn’t out there.

So they took Scoot knowing that ended the relationship.

They took the best player available because they couldn’t trade the pick for the right value. Was Portland supposed to take Lively because he’s a positional fit at 3? Does Dame decide to stay because Lively is there?!?!? I don’t know what else they were supposed to do with that.

it really doesn’t matter, they had to know what they were doing when they made that pick. It will all get worked out eventually.

You mean they knew what they were doing when they tried to trade that pick and salary to the Clippers for PG13 and the Clippers said no. And that was the only tangible rumor we even had of interest in that pick.

I’m not saying anyone did or didn’t do what they should have done, this is how it ended up.
