The Ringer article pretty much sums it up.

I will post the important parts….

I can already hear Miami fans crying about Herro, who’s only 23 and has averaged over 20 points in consecutive seasons. But he’s a liability on defense, has been a dud on offense in the playoffs ever since the bubble, and is owed $120 million over the next four years. The Blazers don’t need another score-first guard who plays iffy defense, with Anfernee Simons already signed to a similar contract and former lottery pick Shaedon Sharpe poised to assume a bigger role in his second year.

Herro is redundant for Portland. And there are already signs the Blazers feel the same way.
This would go down as one of the worst trades in NBA history. There’s no big lump of draft picks like the Nets received for Kevin Durant or the Jazz did for Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, and no key young players like the Pelicans got for Anthony Davis or the Thunder got for Paul George.
The dud in the playoffs stuff isn't fair. The entire team were duds in 2021 in that sweep. Last year he played through an injury which eventually led to him most of the boston series and this year he played a half of game

Btw was it Kevin Oconner hating ass who wrote this? I dont care about the other stuff but the crap about him in the playoffs isn't fair. Sometimes i see why kawhi only plays when he's at 100%. You fight through injuries and play at 75% and you get criticized like hell for it

Sorry, DT.....continue to rant on for the next 2-3 pages.
Haha...says the guy who started an argument with someone he agreed with.

Ya gotta love this forum.

OK, that's not fair....this is just your schtick.

Is it really though?

That is core destined to win somewhere between 35-45 games.

No thanks.

It’s the 2-4 of a title team Imo.

Need to use all those picks to land the 1

So basically what teams seem to be saying is that they prefer cap flexibility over Tyler Herro.

And I agree that is the right approach for anybody that isn’t close to winning.

The wizards disagree….

which means it’s absolutely the correct take

The real problem right now is cash

They’d probably need to fold multiple trades already made into this deal to make it work

Like mills and Harris trades

Part of Miami’s problem with pulling off this trade is their own strength as a franchise. They are known for their culture and getting the most out of their players. Well most people are looking at Herro’s stats and envisioning a dip if he leaves Miami. And if his number dip just a little, he just becomes another Jordan Poole.

I just can’t imagine a scenario where Miami is able to pull off this trade….
…..unless the name Bam starts getting brought up.

Someone else is going to trump an offer that only involves picks that don’t come into play for 4 seasons and whatever Herro and Duncan can be spun off for. There needs to be some immediate impact. This trade isn’t about what is best for Portland long term. It is about what gets Portland to the playoffs not this coming season but the following season. Because if Portland isn’t in the playoffs in the next 2 years, the GM who is tasked with making this trade gets shit canned from his dream job.

Was it? No one can say for sure because he never bothers to say what the package actually was, just that the Knicks turned it down and didn't want to give an extension. For one, the package may or may not have been too high. We don't know. If it was every asset they have, yeah, too high. But for all we know, it might have been very reasonable. As far as the extension goes, that too, we don't know because he doesn't specify. Is it a full max? What if its something like the Kyrie deal where its less years (3 vs 4 or 5) and comes in at slightly less money than the max? Paul George is still a very good player. The Knicks do have a nice cache of assets to get a star (I'd personally wait to see if Embiid is available in a year) and Paul George is someone that would fit them well. The lack of actual details smells more like a guy riffing off 3rd hand information that likely wasn't even true to begin with.
