I'd say that a disappointing playoff performance and a 2nd round exit when you were brought in to at least get to the finals is not a great season.
Not a great season for the Sixers doesn’t necessarily mean not a great season for Harden. Based on your same reasoning you’d have to say Embiid didn’t have a great season and yet he was MVP of the league. Even if you want to say Embiid doesn’t win MVP if the whole season is taken into account including playoffs, he still lands inside the top 3 vote getters. That’s a great season. I don’t know why would lean so heavily on the team result when assessing what an asset is when the desire in even doing the assessment is to project where he fits on your team not his most recent team.

Brooklyn can. The Heat can’t because they won’t include Bam. They take back Herro who still has 4 years left on his deal. They also likely have to swallow other pieces. The Heat don’t have a ton of firsts they can offer either. I think Dame to Miami would have to be a three way deal.

On Brooklyn, I know that Dame and Bridges have a solid relationship but that team maxes out as a 4-5 seed and they aren’t a legit ring contender. Dame who apparently loves Portland is going to jump to a similar situation that won’t net a ring? I’m not seeing it. Brooklyn deal is great for Portland because of picks. Is that deal great for Dame? I would argue not if he’s really doing this for a shot at a ring.
Dame to BKN would need to be a chain reaction. You make that move along with other moves. Bridges, Dame and pieces is exactly what you said, nothing special. It sucks for BKN that Simmons is hurting them to this point. Injuries, contract and little trade value. Maybe if they add more picks to Simmons they can get a decent package? This is maxing BKN out.

Y'all are sleeping on Maxey.

Without Harden he could bust out.
Sigh…watch the player, dog! If you’ve been paying attention as soon as Harden came Maxey became more efficient and got better shots. Why? Harden gets guys shots but he didn’t have the pressure of running the offense. He didn’t have to be the lead guard and get others involved. It’s a legit hole in his game so far. He’s been a 2 all his life save the half season of no Ben Pre Harden. Harden didn’t step on Maxey’s toes or get in his way at all. Harden’s presence made him better because it took him out of a role that he wasn’t ready for yet.

Without a doubt. The Simmons asset was garbage. The Sixers had the 3rd best record in the league last year.

That’s silly. Both players had to be moved and the Sixers got the better of the deal.

Who in playoff competition got Kevin Huerter a huge contract because he’s a defensive liability.

We’re lamenting a back up center when the in house replacement has been the best +/- back up Embiid has had in his career with the Sixers

Not for a team willing to pay the luxury tax. He played at 35 mil last season and was 20 and 10 and the team had the third best record in the league.

Thank you. The Nets lost this deal.

The Simmons asset wasn’t garbage until the 6ers broke him.

Had they traded him before publicly humiliating him which allowed everyone else to realize he was broken, they could have gotten more.

You are looking at the simple math that Harden did more for Philly than the package the Nets got for Harden.

What I see is that both teams were worse after the deal. And unless the 6ers pull off a crazy trade, their contention window could very well be closed.

Congrats.

I need more imagination as to who that player is and if they have to take a step back losing a guy like Cam Johnson to make it happen.

It kinda does though. If a team underachieves as the Sixers have, it's not a great season, regardless of the stats. For a team like the Sixers, who is expected to contend for rings, that's on the stars.

Since they were teamed up, Lebron and AD have both put up some great stats, but the Lakers have really only had 1 great season since pairing them.

In fact, the only thing that has kept it from being a complete failure is that they got a ring.

The Simmons asset wasn’t garbage until the 6ers broke him.
The actual weight of expectations in being a highly regarded NBA player broke him not the Sixers.
Had they traded him before publicly humiliating him which allowed everyone else to realize he was broken, they could have gotten more.
Hindsight is always 20/20. But when you assess a deal you can’t go back in time and say should have done this thing years ago. All you can do is assess what’s there now. People said Morey would get far less than James Harden for that asset.
You are looking at the simple math that Harden did more for Philly than the package the Nets got for Harden.
And that’s how you assess who won a trade, no?
What I see is that both teams were worse after the deal. And unless the 6ers pull off a crazy trade, their contention window could very well be closed.
The Sixers weren’t worse though. They were better. Last season was their high water mark for wins. Up 3-2 in the 2nd round is (embarrassingly) their best performance in the Embiid era.
Congrats.
Thanks. I’m really excited that they got Harden to opt in. Opens up the door for an exciting Sixers off season when I didn’t think that was a possibility.

I see where you’re coming from. The big “what matters” is rings and championships. I’m just saying that in assessing individual performances it’s different than team performances.

Yeah, it's always interesting with trades. If a trade doesn't work out, I always like to look at what the prevailing thought was at the time it was made.

The Lakers getting Dwight and Steve Nash, turned out to be a disaster...but at the time the deal was made, there wasn't a GM in the league that wasn't making that deal and all of the talking heads were predicting at least a finals appearance.

Can't really blame a GM for making a move that every other GM would make if they could.

Or Brooklyn’s attempt at a big 3. They were the top choice among bettors to win the title at multiple junctures. I don’t know how anyone can stand here today and say the Sixers didn’t win the Harden/Simmons deal.

Meh, I didn't have an issue with him. I enjoyed some of his off the wall stuff that he'd come up with.

I won't miss him, but I wouldn't complain if they had kept him either.
Yeah....he wasn't as bad as some are claiming.
