Yeah but youre already saying seasons should probably be shorter anyways. So whats the hurt in just having some games that are guaranteed to matter?
The full 82 game season isnt full devauled. The 7/8 seeds are rewarded in that they only have to go 1-1. And they get at least 1 of those games at home, 2 if they are the 7 seed. Theres still incentive.
TBH having 16 playoff teams in sports is pretty meh to begin with. So might as well allow two more teams to fight for that last spot and potentially earn it by playing good ball when it matters.
Was the play in addition needed? Nah. But it also isnt hurting anything by now being in place.
Seasons need to be shorter to eliminate back to backs and hopefully discourage stars sitting for rest. If you want to expand the playoffs in an even matter at that point, sure. No single elimination matchups however, that's far too punitive.
82 games to get home court in a 1 game matchup? Yeah, that sounds appropriate lol.
We don't know that it isn't hurting anything. How much more interesting would the playoffs have been with Golden State involved in 2021? Clippers or Cavs in 2022?
