Maybe I’m wrong but I thought what he cited was the way the rule is supposed to be interpreted. If the ball is still attached and connected to the hand you can contact the hand on a block. The reason why we see it called most often is it’s really hard to do that without getting any arm or body but KCP didn’t get arm or body. He just got hand.

Am I getting this call wrong? I’ve always heard “hand is part of the ball.”

You are right. Pretty much the entire post. You don't see the hand getting blasted that hard too often without any other part getting hit but that is what just happened.

That is the rule because it is impossible to differentiate when the defender knocks the ball out of offensive players hands. Would be a foul almost every time otherwise.
