Eagles are releasing Darius Slay. Damn. The dead cap for him on Spotrac is listed at 21.625 million. Still hoping this is a negotiating ploy showing Slay how far Eagles are willing to go. However, they need to draw the line in the sand. The Eagles model is clear. If you take a big bag, you’re also agreeing to redo your deal with a restructure and extension. If Slay isn’t on board with freeing up space for his teammates to get paid then he has to go.

Much appreciation for the years he spent here and I wish him the best of luck going forward. He still has some really good football left in him.
It saves 3.7

Doesn't this Aaron Rodgers saga breathe the same air that the LeBron South Beach ESPN announcement? Like, why aren't people as outraged with Aaron as they are/were with LeBron?
You are misremembering how lame Lebron was and/or watching too much TV.

Not crazy about the Eagles bringing back Cox on 10 million a year. He’s not the same guy anymore. Doesn’t have the motor. At the same time, he’s a leader in the locker room.

I was shocked at that amount. I was hoping Dallas would look at him and was thinking that amount would be possible for 2 years or maybe 1 for $5M. Still like the player and always thought he was one of the underrated players of this era, but that’s just too much IMO.

Karma came back around on me because I said earlier today a mistake they made was committing to older players out of loyalty after the Super Bowl in 2017.

It’s clear Jerry got some bad news for his doctor. We haven’t done anything in free agency since 2012 and all of a sudden we are restructuring everyone in sight. Something on the horizon. Maybe a trade for a WR (Hopkins, Cooks or Sutton?) or signing Wagner or extending Diggs or resign Schultz???? Who the heck knows but I’m happy to do something other than veterans minimum deals.

CBS Sports' Josina Anderson reports the Eagles are "having a hard time letting go" of CB Darius Slay.

It was reported earlier in the day that Slay would be released. This came off the heels of reports that he was given permission to seek a trade that would allow him to remain on his current contract with a new team. Slay even said his goodbyes on Twitter on the first day of free agency. It was a foregone conclusion that he would be a free agent by Thursday. However, the transaction wire came and went without Slay's release. NBC's John Clark added that he believes Slay wants to, so it's possible the two sides are able to work something out. Slay was an integral part of the Eagles' defense last year, tallying 14 pass breakups and three interceptions. For now, Slay remains on the roster as the two sides desperately try to find a middle ground that gets the stud corner paid while working within the Eagles' cap constraints.

I’d keep him as possible. Huge drop off talentwise if they move on

Howie Roseman played chicken with Darius Slay and it looks like he’s gonna win. Hope this doesn’t screw them with CJGJ. The Redick and AJ Brown options to free up 25 million in space is huge. Slay’s wife is celebrating on Twitter.

If he doesn’t get cut he holds out for a new deal. Don’t take it from me. Listen to the man’s latest podcast where he implies he wouldn’t play on the last year of his deal. He fucked with the system. He’s 32. He gambled. He lost. Eagles will draft a CB at 10 and they have a comparable talent at CB they just resigned for 2 years and 20 million guaranteed. Slay refused to play the game. Oh well. Holding on to a guy like this and caving to his demands is the mistake the Eagles made in 2018 after their Super Bowl over valuing older players because of loyalty.
If he holds out he doesn't get paid.

The Philadelphia Eagles are losing another piece of their NFC Championship defense. The Eagles are set to release cornerback Darius Slay after the two sides could not agree on a restructured contract, ESPN reported on Wednesday.

Philadelphia will designate Slay as a post-June 1 release, pushing $13 million of his cap hit to 2024. The cornerback will still count for a little more than $8 million on the 2023 cap. His original 2023 cap hit would’ve been approximately $26.1 million.
Odd, I'm told the culture keeps the players there.
