That's not the case. The Eagles have to proceed with Slay's contract on the books for cap purposes until June 1. The 2023 cap number for Slay will be $26.111M until the June 1 date in May, after that date it will change down to $8.611M, and in 2024 it will be $13.798M. The alternative was to clear everything immediately and have him count as $22.409M for the whole of 2023 with nothing beyond that. It's marginal as to which is the best approach.

No they didn't. The dead cap number is informational only. His cap hit is unchanged until 6/1 other than I assume his $500K workout bonus which will now not likely be paid
