Looks like week 7 is when teams realized that Bradberry is not an easier target and looked to spread it around more.Looks like Slay had two different seasons last year. It kind of felt like that but here are numbers to back it up

It would be a great investment. At the same time, they’re in the process of rebuilding their defense. It will likely be a two off season process. Not for nothing, eagles better retain GJohnson
Target rate seems to be about the same.Looks like week 7 is when teams realized that Bradberry is not an easier target and looked to spread it around more.
Let’s just call this a slightly better Robert Spillane. Still not a guy you wanna see in coverage, but a tackling machine. Was a signal caller for the Commanders, so he’s a smart ball player. Very Steelers like signing.Steelers signed LB Cole Holcomb, formerly of the Commanders, to a three-year contract.
Holcomb, 26, has started 48 games for Washington over the past four seasons. His career year came in 2021, when Holcomb recorded 145 tackles. He has 4.5 sacks in his NFL career and will join a Steelers defensive making free agency moves to improve for 2023 and beyond.
Well...you guys have the 2022 season. Something Dallas will never have again. It would be a great investment. At the same time, they’re in the process of rebuilding their defense. It will likely be a two off season process.
Not giving Slay 3 guaranteed years at age 32-33 is a move to make sure that they can compete in the future.Well...you guys have the 2022 season. Something Dallas will never have again.
Go Team
Wow!!! I knew a DB wasn't coming back but didn't think it was going to be him. That Howie is ruthless but the can kicking is coming home to roost. Smart to move on while you can and not make it worse and use the money elsewhere (Hurts?) I guess
How is it coming home to roost? This is the antithesis of that. Slay wanted 3 guaranteed years. Why would you guarantee 3 years to a 32 year old CB?Wow!!! I knew a DB wasn't coming back but didn't think it was going to be him. That Howie is ruthless but the can kicking is coming home to roost
Has nothing to do with what he wants going forward. He is under contract for this year. Who cares what he wants in future years. He was cut for cap purposes. You don't cut a CB playing as well as he was for any other reason. If not for the cap he'd just not be re-signed next year but he sure as heck wouldn't be cut todayHow is it coming home to roost? If he doesn’t get cut he holds out for a new deal. Don’t take it from me. Listen to the man’s latest podcast where he implies he wouldn’t play on the last year of his deal. He fucked with the system. He’s 32. He gambled. He lost. Eagles will draft a CB at 10 and they have a comparable talent at CB they just resigned for 2 years and 20 million guaranteed. Slay refused to play the game. Oh well. Holding on to a guy like this and caving to his demands is the mistake the Eagles made in 2018 after their Super Bowl over valuing older players because of loyalty.Has nothing to do with what he wants going forward. Additionally, the only pathway to a deal with CJGJ is for Slay to renegotiate or for him to be cut. I’m choosing the 25 year old over the 32 year old all day everyday. If he doesn’t get cut he holds out for a new deal. Don’t take it from me. I could see a 40\30\30 type ratio keeping the RBs healthy and fresh. I like Penny and the way he runs, just sucks he's injury prone.Sanders led the league last year in yards BEFORE contact. They've truly made this a plug-and-play position for them. Honestly, I think Gainwell is the starter here not Penny. Not that it matters as all 3 guys will get touches. Even if Penny does get hurt, they'll have someone to elevate from the practice squad. Last year, that guy was Trey Sermon. My only worry with this model is making sure the players you choose to go to battle with can do their job in pass pro. That's the single biggest trait that gets in the way of young guys getting run at this position in the NFL.
I think most who post here have a ballpark idea how all this works. Not giving Slay 3 guaranteed years at age 32-33 is a move to make sure that they can compete in the future.
I'd HOPE for this too.Additionally, the only pathway to a deal with CJGJ is for Slay to renegotiate or for him to be cut. I’m choosing the 25 year old over the 32 year old all day everyday.
Like you always say: it's in the detailsInteresting they couldn't find a trade partner for Slay. You can have him for 1 year and $17.5M and probably only give up a late pick.
More than likely the problem is that due to cap issues they are forced to cut him instead of trade him. With a cut you can designate him a post 6/1 cut and thus the 2023 cap hit is only $8.6M (and $14M next season) but with a trade you can't, so if they traded him the 2023 cap hit would be over $22M. They can of course trade him after 6/1 but probably don't want to hold him until then. Problem with the post 6/1 cut though is it doesn't free all of that cap space until after 6/1. His salary still counts against the cap until that date. So until 6/1 no cap relief and he actually takes up more space than if cut w/o the post 6/1 designation. I guess look for the Hurts extension after 6/1.
