Interesting they couldn't find a trade partner for Slay. You can have him for 1 year and $17.5M and probably only give up a late pick.
More than likely the problem is that due to cap issues they are forced to cut him instead of trade him. With a cut you can designate him a post 6/1 cut and thus the 2023 cap hit is only $8.6M (and $14M next season) but with a trade you can't, so if they traded him the 2023 cap hit would be over $22M. They can of course trade him after 6/1 but probably don't want to hold him until then. Problem with the post 6/1 cut though is it doesn't free all of that cap space until after 6/1. His salary still counts against the cap until that date. So until 6/1 no cap relief and he actually takes up more space than if cut w/o the post 6/1 designation. I guess look for the Hurts extension after 6/1.
Cowboys only had to give up a 5th rounder for the same quality level of corner who makes like 60% of what Slay makes. Not sure there is a market for a guy with a cap hit like this who would ultimately demand a new deal once traded. The real cap relief comes in the way of 8-9 million now. A Lane Johnson restructure opens up the needed cap to load a CJGJ deal in year 2 of whatever deal he inks for.

Lazard is garbage. Watson is better and Doubs was a steal. Will Packers actually attempt to add Love help though? They never seemed interested in doing it for Rodgers.

I think they should trade for Allen Robinson. I hear he could be available (crosses fingers)....

I think most who post here have a ballpark idea how all this works.

It's all about one's own view.
I disagree. You guys continually talk about this situation handcuffing teams like the Eagles. The cap won’t get in the way of the Eagles achieving their roster goals. They have lost two LBs who aren’t worth paying. A RB that isn’t worth paying. A DT who just got 21 million at 29 years old. A 32 year old CB who wanted 3 years guaranteed. None of those situations are tenable and it’s how you really get in trouble with your cap.

The caveat being it's not technically now. It's after 6/1. Which can be an issue in free agency but they still have room to maneuver and can restructure others if need be knowing that they are getting that space back

This is where you're wrong.

It's not a eagle thing and Howie (love that name) isn't ahead of the curve.

Win a championship and it's smart.
Playoffs in 5 of the last 6 years. 2 Super Bowls and 1 World Championship. The key is positioning yourself to take a legit swing almost every year. It's an offensive league and the Eagles found their QB, their weapons, and their OL looks great. They return their top 3 sack guys from last year, a Pro Bowl-caliber CB and they have 5 draft picks in the top 100 picks, 3 in the top 65. Last year, 3 of their draft choices were essentially red-shirted and will step in this year as contributors. They're in a position to continue to take swings.

Eagles released CB Darius Slay.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer said Slay and the Eagles couldn't come to an agreement, which is why the team granted Slay permission to seek a trade last week. Slay, 32, will count for a little more than $8 million against the salary cap for Philadelphia in 2023. Slay in 2022 allowed 47 receptions on 83 targets while earning a PFF pass coverage grade of 77.3, serving as an anchor for one of the NFL's best coverage units. He'll likely have several teams bidding for his services in the coming days.

They immediately freed up 5 million with the difference between his salary and his dead cap number. The biggest saving do come after 6/1

The Philadelphia Eagles are losing another piece of their NFC Championship defense. The Eagles are set to release cornerback Darius Slay after the two sides could not agree on a restructured contract, ESPN reported on Wednesday.

Philadelphia will designate Slay as a post-June 1 release, pushing $13 million of his cap hit to 2024. The cornerback will still count for a little more than $8 million on the 2023 cap. His original 2023 cap hit would’ve been approximately $26.1 million.

Maybe it's you. Lord knows the SportsHoopla eagle fans don't hammer eagle pep squad shit at every opportunity.

Bills signed WR/Ret Deonte Harty to a 2 year $13.5M deal.

The confusion is now clearing as I discover he changed his name from Deonte Harris, lol.

Bills also restructured Diggs' contract to open another $5.4M in space.

Chiefs picking up Omenihu makes sense. Someone to add to the rotation who wont keep them from drafting another player

What’s “pep squad” about this? You want me to cry about the Eagles avoiding a bad 3 year guaranteed deal?
