I legit don't know what you're arguing
That's clear!

Iowa is 10-2 the last 6 years vs other P5 that's a fact
Again, how can Iowa be 10-2 when they only played 10 P5 teams?

3 of those games were vs season ending top 25 teams and 2 others were vs teams who were ranked at the time
Again, no one cares what they were ranked at game time. Only one of the ten ended up in the final AP poll.

If you want to change the ranking system, how about the Massey Composite? It is a composite of ~75 -100 ranking systems and thus might be considered a "general consensus".

Not much to say here. Iowa did pretty much what they should have done. They lost to an ISU squad that had a losing record but beat an MSU team which ended up above them, so it pretty much washes out.

As i said if you're assertion is Iowa can't beat the elite P5 programs that correct. No one does
I'm not sure what your definition of "elite" is but Iowa beat #5 Ohio State in 2017.

Hell since 1990, UF have given 10 teams their only loss of the season and did so by an average of more than 20 pts/gm!

It happens with surprising regularity which is why one must look at a teams entire resume and NOT just cherry pick games.

Finally...
But this was in response to the P12 yeams coming in and none of those programs are elite the last decade plus. Closest is Oregon who is ostensibly a slightly better version of Wisconsin results wise
Yes, I think those PAC teams are in for a rude awakening when they get to the B1G!

Utah is as close to Iowa as the Pav12 has. Every time Pac has a decent playoff hopeful Utah ruins it.....I think Washington breaks the curse today though.

B10 West doesn't even qualify for a 'scrub' division.

It is without any doubt, the worst division in P5 football history.

My pathetic Huskers who have lost their last 2 games due mostly to 9 turnovers, still have a shot to win the division.

Thankfully this shitshow ends this year.

Don't limit it to 2023, that division has always been mediocre to bad. Wisconsin had a run from 2016-2018 where they were a top level BIG team, but other than that nobody has posed a serious threat to whoever has come out of the East.

Has anyone in the west even sniffed the CFP? I don't remember it if they did.

Iowa in 2015.

They were 11-0 and ranked #4 prior to the B10 Championship game against #5 Michigan State.

Lost 16-13. Michigan State then got embarrassed by Alabama 38-0 and Iowa was dismantled by Stanford in the Rose Bowl 45-16. Likely the worst year this century in the B10.

Wisconsin in 2017. Went undefeated against a very weak schedule but lost to OSU in the BIG title game

People are still trying to act like Iowa is a legit top end football team? In the year of our Lord 2023?

I think the problem is that people have called them the Big West instead of the Big 10 West for so long that they thought they were the Big West - a league that gave up college football years ago.

I mean, gotta say.

I find it funny listening to the all knowing sports media when they talk about the SEC some years, and they say in their most enthusiastic and sympathetic voice, "well, the sec is soooo tough, they just cannibalize each other, they are all good, but it's just tough to win all your games in this conference"................. :rolleyes2:

but no, we can't say that about any other conference.

Ok, I've waited long enough. You clearly think there is something wrong with the statement " well, the sec is soooo tough, they just cannibalize each other, they are all good, but it's just tough to win all your games in this conference"................." as you included :rolleyes2:

and
but no, we can't say that about any other conference.
So, are you of the belief that ALL conferences "cannibalize each other" or just some? In a way, that's what ALL in-conference games are about, dog-eat-dog. Just because the teams in conference "A" all ended up 4-4 doesn't mean that the teams are any good on an absolute basis. Al it means is that the teams in conference "A" are equally good. Likewise, because the teams in conference "B" ended up 8-0, 7-1, 6-2, 5-3, 4-4, 3-5, 2-6, 1-7, and 0-8 doesn't mean the teams that finished 8-0, 7-1, 6-2, and 5-3 are better than the teams in conference "A". In-conference games can't tell you how teams in conference "A" compare to those in conference "B".

Suppose the 9 teams in "A" each played 4 games vs teams in "B" (at random) and each team in "A" finished 4-0 vs "B". Then, over all, all 9 teams in "A" would finish 8-4 while conference "B would end up: 8-4, 7-5, 6-6, 5-7, 4-8, 3-9, 2-10, 1-11, and 0-12. This would suggest that EVERY team in "A" is better than EVERY team in "B"

Now, turn it around, suppose the 9 teams in "A" each played 4 games vs teams in "B" (at random) and each team in "B" finished 4-0 vs "A". Now, , all 9 teams in "A" would finish 4-8 while conference "B would end up: 12-0, 11-1, 10-2, 9-3, 8-4, 7-5, 6-6, 5-7, and 4-8. This suggest that EVERY team in "B" is better than EVERY team in "A"!!

Only NON_conference games can sort out the conferences relative to each other. If the top teams (like Michigan which hasn't played one in three years)) don't play P5 OOC teams the relative rankings are pretty much a guess.

Can't speak for the other teams but I've spent 5+ years hearing people laugh about how bad Iowas offense is and how they're " going to get rolled by teams from ________ conference when they run up against them"

Yet every time they do Iowa kicks their ass to the tune of 10-1 vs B12/P12/SEC/ACC teams over the past 6 years with 4 of those wins coming over top 25 teams and most in blowout fashon

So, ya know, its whatever

There are a lot of teams with great offenses who suddenly look pretty shitty on offense when they play a great D

Maybe this time those people will be right and iowa will get crushed in their bowl. Could happen. The offense is awful.

But i just really really doubt it
Iowa was embarrassing today. They won't be close to another B1G title game with the PAC teams coming and no weak division anymore.

I live in Iowa, I've listened to Iowa fans for years say how they keep winning but every time you play someone good in a bowl, you get slapped.

Iowa is 5-2 in their last 7 Bowls man

Yes this team this year as no good

But they lost their top 2 QBs , their 2 best WRs to the portal and their 2 best TEs

And still won 10 games

It is what it is

The offense will be better next year and the D will still be elite

That's 4-7 since 2011. And look at those wins, didn't beat any good teams. That's my point with Iowa (and I'm not a hater, I'm from Iowa and my family cheers for them) but the program is falling behind and needs to change.

Ferentz did great but he needs to go. Iowa needs to catch up to the modern game to have any chance to compete in the new B1G.

Sorry guess it was 4-2. And yes they lost 5 before that. And before that they won 3 or 4 in a row

I get what you're saying but ultimately Iowa does as well against the big programs as any other program of their ilk

Im not crazy enough to expect us to consistently beat Michigan/OSU/PSU but we beat then more than just about anyone else on the B10 too

The last few years are mostly abberation with the offense. Prior to 2021 the offense was fine. Not great but not awful either

That's really all Iowa need to compete consistently. They're not an elite program ( top 10 ) but they're in that next 10-15 and that's about as good as its going to get at a school like Iowa
