Yes the market for Calhoun is likely nonexistent. His continued injuries definitely have not helped and he has proven zero

He has shown small glimpses of brilliance compared to hitters on last years team

He can easily not.be a future part of this team even with a lot of improvement

But this is still a rebuild year and I want to see what he has. Probably a make it or break it year for him

so give him one of the 26 roster spots when we have others that deserve a chance to show what they have?

he's had his chances

No way he will be DH 100% of the time imo
Well if he isn't a full time DH, then what exactly is he; other than a liability if you try to utilize him doing much else?

And I say again, I'm not a Calhoun hater. I just don't see what value he brings - especially to a team like the Rangers - going forward.

You make my point. Defensively he has no value.

I would let him be the DH 100% of the time with his bad defense. He’s a bat only player.
I would give him the first half of the year and see how it goes. If he sucks cut him and move on.
If he stays healthy and starts to show what he can do then good.

there are a number of prospects, as saddles likes to point out, that could fill his spot and also even play in the field. Willie is a liability in the field
And not yet proven he is qualified. He has not played enough to know what he can do with the bat over a full season.
On his best day, Willie was never an all around MLB player.

that's my point. for 5 years we have seen him literally spend more time on the IL than on the field. how many more years are we going to carry him on the roster before we realize that you can not carry 1-dimensional players on a limited roster?

That has been a FO theory to long.

No one at present. That could change by the All Star break or maybe not until a year from now.

I do think we will have at least one hitting prospect ready to come up either late July or early August.

someone ask who i would put out there in his place and i thought about it and came up with Bubba Thompson and Steele Walker. both are outfielders who are better than Calhoun and they also can hit

That is about what I think but to me more in the off-season. The 40 man spot is the one spot he potentially blocks first so he has to play outstanding to stick at DH. He has no real shot long term as LF IMO i

But yes we will assess the roster again at ASB

Currently Bubba Thompson and Steele Walker haven’t proven they can hit AA pitching yet.
Calhoun has proven he can hit MLB pitching when healthy and not dealing with injuries or disruptions to his playing time

*Bubba Thompson did do well last year. Hoping he can repeat with a little better consistency and so glad he didn’t get grabbed on the rule 5.

i guess. it seems that we just want to keep giving some opportunity after opportunity while quickly giving up on others.

Despite this bing AJM, he is correct. But regardless Leody needs to play daily AAA or MLB. Just think AAA is not prudent for him and then Midseason call up if blowing it iut

I would like to get whatever we can in trade for him at some point this calendar year. He has always seemed to be overrated to me.

To me, Smith, Duran or Carter is our CF of the future.

I think Leody will eventually be a very valuable player, pretty soon too.
.265/.340/.450 20 HR 20 SB solid defense 3.5-4 WAR player. I don’t wanna give up on him
Not amazing numbers but very good #s for a speedy CF
