I just looked at yesterday’s box score…

Rodon 4 IP, 1 H, 4/0 K/BB
Bart 2-4, HR
Pedo 1-3, HR
Ruf 2-3, 2 2B, BB
la Stella (DH) 1-2, 2B, BB

Very promising game

La Stella's bat seems ready. Will his fielding be ready for OP? It seems hopeful.

I know that Belt was only getting into spring training games late last spring but I believe it wasn't this late. At what point does the conversation turn to Belt not being ready for Opening Day?

Belt is so injury prone, he could already have taken the field and had 3 ABs and I still would not be certain he was available for that day’s game.

from the SJ Merc:

Belt, 33, hasn't played a game this spring but is 'very tentatively' set to make his debut Monday vs. A's.

Another ST game, another nice job by our starter and a really good game from the bats.

The SP have been excellent this spring.
Stars was back in the lineup at 2b, went 2-2 with a bomb.
Stamos 3-3 with a bomb...vs a lefty
Luis Gonzalez looked really good, 3-3 with a bomb.
And we had a Doobie Bomb for good measure.

How did we get LGonz from the Chisox?

Was just reading up on LGoz...signed as minor league FA...

Third round pick by the ChiSox.

Interesting.

Actually, he was claimed off waivers toward the end of last year and survived a dfa this offseason to remain in the organization.

Disclaimers up front:

1. Its only ST
2. The sample sizes are small

That all said, the Giants are hitting the snot outta the ball, the SPs are fairly dominant, and the defense looks sound. Most of the runs given up are by pitchers who will not be going to SF.

The problem will be finding enough 40 man spots to keep all the guys we want.

FZ is playing 5D chess while the rest of us are thinking checkers.

Phuk the doyers.

And it should be noted that the offense is doing this without Posey, Longoria, Bryant and Belt as well. However, it is spring training. It will be interesting to see how that translates into the regular season.

Are there any serious considerations on carrying any of the non roster guys on the active roster for Opening Day? The only possibility I see is if LaStella and Belt are both not ready for Opening Day and one of the middle infield guys (Gamboa, Blandino or Krizan) get added. However, Beede is almost a lock to get dfa'd so that won't be a problem. Do you think Gonzalez gets picked over Duggar or Slater? If Duggar, there's another dfa. And if Dubon doesn't make the roster, that's a 3rd dfa. All other NRIs easily get assigned to AAA. No 40 man additions needed.

Agree. 40 man manipulation will take care of itself IF any NRI makes the club.

That said, while a few have gotten attention (Gonzalez, Krizan, Blandino), I don’t see any of them making the team out of the gate. I don’t know if any have out clauses, though. That would certainly change the calculus.

I think both Stars and BB9 will be in the lineup on 4.8. Beede is gone I think. LuGonz could make the squad, but it would be Slater who loses out as he has an option. Doobie will be on the roster as well. It'll be interesting.

Have to agree with tzill. Things are really looking good so far. Pitching has been goid and the hitting even better. The only regular that seems to be having some issues is Rogers. I had no expectations last year and they were great. I do have some this year. Not outrageous ... but I do have some .... let the year begin ...

Surprised that Kervin got sent down today...a little surprised at Junis too.

Revised guess as to Opening Day roster:

C - Bart, Casali
IF - Belt, Stars, Stamos, Flowers, Doobie, TyRo, Vosler
OF - Yaz, Joc, Slater, DigDug, Ruf
SP - Webb, Rodon, Disco, Wood, Cobb
RP - Alvarez, Brebbia, Doval, Garcia, Leone, Long, McGee, TRog, Shittell

I'm surprised by both as well. Looks like they are going with Brebbia over Junis. I'm not sure Sam Long will break camp. Maybe they go with an extra bat (Williams) instead. Time will tell.

Maybe they will go the inventory route and open with DigDug, Dubbs and Beede to give them one last chance to stick (or more time to work a trade).

But they are all on the fence for when rosters drop to 26.
